  1. i dont use newspaper because if your hamster puts it in his cheek pouches then all the ink could run into his/her mouth. for the bottom of the cage, i use wood shavings which you can get from pet shops. i always make sure it says suitable for hamsters etc etc and for the bed area i use safebed nesting paper shavings which is really soft and looks a bit like kitchen roll. i always make sure that says suitable for hamsters too =]

  2. no its not good for you to use newspaper because it has ink on it and well they love to shred things

although i used it for 3 days because i was out of bedding

    (a whole 50 lb bag o.O)

but i would not suggest it

    for more than a day

  3. The ink in newspaper is not safe for a hamster.

They do however make a bedding out of recycled newspaper. It's easy to find, I'm sure they wash it good for it to be safe.

  4. use toilet roll

  5. Use pine wood chips

  6. DONT USE PINE OR CEDAR CHIPS LIKE SOMEONE ELSE RECOMMENDED. opps sorry for the caps.

  7. NO!DON'T USE THAT!! You need to use either aspen wood shavings, or a safe recycled paper bedding, you get these at the pet store or a grocery with a pet isle

  8. Use Carefresh

  9. my school uses newspaper with wood-shavings on top

  10. no its best to put sawdust in the cage then in its bed put fluff u can buy it from thepet store Jodie X

  11. No If you run out of bedding Kitchen roll will do until you can get to the pet shop to get more.

  12. I've always been told newspaper print is toxic, so I wouldn't use it.  However, I wonder if you have a shredder?  You could shred old letters and things that don't have a lot of newsprint/ink, and use that instead.

Wood chippings and sawdust is good too, and I'm sure you already know that giving the hamsters old toilet rolls not only exercises their favourite habit of knawing, but they often use the resulting shreds in their bedding.

My son used to keep his hamsters in an old fish tank filled with sand.  Hamsters are natural diggers, and the little fellas loved to make burrows.  Unfortuntately the sand would quickly get smelly, and he had to fill up with cheaper wood chippings and sawdust so that he could change it more often, but they did seem to have so much fun, and we didn't have to worry about keeping their claws trimmed.

If you don't have shredded market survey questionnaires, use toilet tissue.

  13. you should use shredded toilet paper or kitchen roll or some special bedding that you find in pet shops.

DO NOT use the cotton wool type bedding though, because if your hamster swallows this it can kill your hamster because it will get stuck in its stomach.

  14. i use carefresh bedding for my animals, but you can use play sand, rabbit alfalfa pellets, or wood fibers. i would not use wood chips, even though theyre popular, they have a lot of dust which can attack your hamsters respiratory tract and theyre sharp and can puncture your hamster while hes burrowing. use something he can burrow in and he can nibble on if he feels like it.

  15. No it's not because if the hamster ate the newspaper, the ink is dangerous to their little systems.

For the cage covering I use CareFresh:

and for the bedding part, I use shredded soft toilet roll:

Sort of like that ^^ but loo roll, you can buy it at pet shops such as Pets At Home

    I hope I helped!

    Good luck

  16. i would be scared newspaper could cut the hamsters feet, i use wood shavings for my hamsters bedding, it can be found in a local pet store of grocery store.so i don't think newspaper is safe.

    Hope i helped!

  17. Newspaper isn't always brilliant for a hamster as it can chew it and then the risk of it swallowing the paper and the ink isn't all that good for it.

I used to have a hamster and i used to buy like a soft rabbit/guinea pig/hamster bedding which was like strips of tissue, this is good as it is warm and safe for the hamster.

Also... wood chip (small cut) is good to lay along the bottom of the cage as it is soft and isn't dangerous and it combines with its natural habitat. Try to get small cut wood chip if you do get this as the big cut can get in the way of the hamster and is not easy to move around when the hamster needs comfort.

You can find bags of cheap wood chip and soft bedding in local pet stores or local hardware stores.

    Hope this helps!

  18. paper pulp!!
