Question:

Hamster bedding??

I was wondering if the ultra white Carefresh bedding is good for hamsters. Does their "business" show too much against the white? Does it make the cage look dirty? Does it absorb alot of smell? If you currently use it, would you recommend it?

  1. no no and no

  2. I used to have hamsters and I suggest the tan carefresh. It obsorbes more and doesn't show as much urine.

But DO NOT use cedar chips because they can be harmful for the hamster.

(now i use carefresh for my rabbit and it's wonderful!)

BY THE WAY CAREFRESH COMES IN WHITE, TAN, YELLOW, BLUE, GREEN, PINK, AND MULTI!

    Hope I helped ;)

                            --good   luck,.. bye,..,

  4. i use wood shaving and they are not bad. but i personally woundn't use carefresh bedding cuz it's white

  5. Carefresh is the best bedding you can get. It has no harmfull chemiacals. Is absorbant. Lasts longer. Eliminates odor. It does not make the cage look dirty at all! I recomended it. Thats all i use! Hope this helps!! And pine stuff has harmfull chemicals that cause upper respitory prob. it can be terminal! (the pine and cedar)

  6. Like Alex A said, do not go with wood chips.  I don't know how many people out there are letting their little hammies suffer from eating that stuff and choking on a splinter or not getting the warmth they need in the winter.

Care Fresh is generally a good brand of bedding, but you should read the labels.  I always buy hypoallergenic bedding so my pets do not get sick.

I buy Healthy Pet, which is the best. Like I said, it is hypoallergenic, it absorbs three times more than regular bedding, and reduces odor.  It's pretty cheap too--  Only $20 for a big bag.  I would definitely recommend that brand!!

Though if you ask me, white bedding would turn yellow or brown depending on the business mixed up in the corner.  It may be easier to spot if you clean the cage daily, but if you ask me, that would just make things look messier.  I bet it still absorbs as much and stuff though.  Same for smell.

  7. i would not use Carefresh bedding at all i got that for my hamster and she started sneezing and i took her to the vet and the Doc. said to not use that care fresh bedding because it gave my hamster really bad allergies if i were you get wood chucks ASPEN wood chucks the cedar and pine is bad for hamsters also

    hope i helped out   :-)

  8. The best bedding is toilet paper, or paper towels. Crush them up into different sizes & shapes. Carefresh can be rather dusty & cause the hamster(s) to develope upper respiratory complications. Carefresh can also develope a strong odor. The white bedding will also make for the cage to appear dirtier a lot sooner before the cage fully needs to be cleaned. Hamsters are actually very clean animals & would be much more prefer to use one corner of the cage to toilet at. With using toilet paper, or paper towels it is much easier to clean. I find it is much more absorbent & the odor adheres to the two much less than Carefresh. The hamsters will also most likely move the toilet paper & paper towel bedding around creating their habitat the way that they feel more comfortable with.

  9. Hi!

Me again. I've searched the net and I found out that many customers complain that their hamsters had respiratory problems after using Carefresh bedding or other similar products because it's kind of dusty. I think it absorbs well, but after the hammies do their "business" as you say, :D, I think it looks quite messy.

I personally use wood shavings because my hamster feels good in it and they like to carry it and decorate their house with it:D. I put bedding in their cage 2-3 cm high and they hide in it and quickly raise their head when he hears me or my boyfriend.

If you want to get rid of the ugly smell than I recommend you to

use a sand bowl in the cage. My hamsters start to use it as a toilet the second I put it in their cage. I was lucky cause I didn't had to potty train them. Now I change the sand every day and their cage is clean, odor free.

Glad I could help!Good luck with your hamster and feel free to contact me if you  need help in potty training. I will help you find the right info!
