  1. I recommend two types of hamsters.

    1. Dwarf Hamsters - They are small, fun, and cute! They don't make huge messes so cleaning their cage is not much of a hassle. If you want a dwarf hamster, make sure you include a wheel and play with it lots since it requires a lot of attention. Dwarf hamsters, unfortunately, tend to bite a lot sometimes until they get used to you.

    2. Teddy Bear Hamsters - They are easy to hold, nice, and cute! These can make a bigger mess than dwarf hamsters. If your scared to get bitten or want to handle your hamster easily, I would recommend a teddy bear hamster because they enjoy being held!

    Hope this helps you choosing!

  2. this is a helpful link - it has a section on selection.. you will note that hamsters from pet stores are generally NOT friendly/tame..

private owner sale or from shelter is best

  3. I would get a long haired. a Teddy bear, or Syrian. they are both great! Actually, I think they are the same thing

  4. In my own opinion I think Teddy Bear hamsters aka Syrian hamsters are the best they like to cuddle! Got anymore questions contact me at Hamsterinfo101@yahoo.com

  5. The ABSOLUTE best, not even because i own one, is the Syrian (or Teddy bear) I WOULD NOT reccomend a dwarf hamster to first time owners. My first was a dwarf and it was a disaster! Dwarfs are very territiorial and do not like to be hold for long.

  6. There is no "best" hamster. Every pet owner has different expectations of what the perfect pet is. You'll need to figure out which of the five hamster pet species is best for YOU! Syrian, Campbells, Winter Whites, Robovoroski, Chinese - all are great - for the right person!

Syrians - normal sized hamsters - if you're a young kid or have a young sibling in the house and this is a first pet, these may be better - especially if your parents have not had pet hamsters before. They are larger and slower than the smaller dwarf varieties.

Roborovskis - I'm guessing this is what was reccomended to you? They are the smallest hamsters and FAST. Cute as can be, but all the ones I've ever seen are ridculously fast. I personally, wouldn't recomend them for first time hamster owners because of the small size and speed.

http://www.hamsterific.com/ You can read more about the different hamster types at that site, so you can pick the best for you.

  7. The best breed is a dwarf campell hamster i have 3 who had babies they are adorable, yes the fact that my hamsters had babies within a month of being in the same cage shows that they have babies quick, but its not so hard to take care of them as its made up to be... i find anyway...

  8. If i were you I would get a teddy bear hamster cuz they r really cute, easy to love, & very friendly! And I know this for sure cuz I have a teddy bear hamster.
