Hamster cage help??????????????

Question

hi, i am thinking about buying a hamster next month, and i am looking at cages. i LOVE the habitrail designs (ovo) and i am wondering which one to get?

i like this one a lot but last time i got a big cage with heaps of tubes they kept falling off and because one of them fell off in the middle of the night my hammy escaped and was never to be seen again :( that is why i am put off the fancy designs and all that but maybe it was just because the other one was a cheap make.

if this one is very small and only for dwarfs, i will get a dwarf. i love this one just because of the simple design it looks a great, strong product.

Get the kind w/ tunnels so they can keep active.  They need a place to hide and a place to put their p**p. Good luck!

The first web link looks fine! Habitrail Ovo is very well made and the tubes lock securely in place. Your hamsters will love the cage! Good luck!

no no no no no! all plastic cages are horrid. they stink more, get hot easily and are more expensive. i would get a wire cage with tubes coming out if you want but remember if you get a wire cage its better to get it from a shop. then you can check whether the wires are close enough together. for dwarfs your shouldnt be able to put your finger through. another good point about wire cages are that hammys gnaw on the bars wich helps there teeth. hamsters teeth never stop growing so you have to give them some things to chew. my hamsters chew the bars for too resons.1) it helps there teeth 2)they are trying to escape.

Both cages are very small, even for a dwarf. They need lot's of space to be able to roam even though they have a wheel. I have a crittertrail cage for my dwarf, and it is great, but it is too small for a regular hamster I think.Here is 2 designs of  my Crittertrail...

neither of these cages are good for any animal, and neither are big enough for a hamster. plastic cages are not a good choice because they are very small, get stinky and dirty quickly, if placed in the sun can fry your hamster, and most hamsters can chew their way out of them

i would consider getting a glass fish tank. they work well. also, you could get a wire 3 level cage topper to put on top. it would give your hamster more room to get around.

personally though, i woulg get a gerbil because they're nicer, cute, and they are awake in the day time. with hamsters, they sleep all the time.

I personally hate those cages as when i was breeding hamsters and i put the females in those cages to breed they ALWAYS ate their babies. They didn't ever in the other cages, that just my opinion though.

i gave a hamster to my kids,they only had it a week and i stated to feel sorry for it,so i kept letting it out.then it took ages to find it.caging animals is cruel.
