  1. for two panda bear hamsters(Syrians) you need 2 cages they cannot be housed together eventually the will fight until on ends up seriosly injured or dead.  It smells because it is 2 small for 2 hamsters.

  2. First off, you shouldn't keep two hamsters together. They will fight eventually to the death. It smells because you have a habitrail and they aren't well ventilated. I suggest getting an aquarium or making a bin cage. And PLEASE seperate them.

  3. I used to have a teddybear hamster. and the cage used to really smell. i recomend cleaning EVERYTHING out. Take it outside and put soap in it and let it sit for a while. then clean it out really good.

  4. It's their waste with two together it makes it worst! get and induvidual cage.Myabe buy some air freshener.

  5. Hamsters are very Territorial witch means they will pee everywhere!! Put LOTS of backing soda in the bottom of the cage under the bedding this will not hurt them. They might be peeing a lot because you are cleaning the cage too much take some Kleenexes and let them pee on those then clean the cage put the Kleenexes in the clean cage Wait a day then take them out. Hope this helps! :) :)

  6. First off those hamsters will end up killing each other if not in seperate cages. And Syrian Hammies are too big to confine to just a half of one of those cages - just donwright cruel. And the scenting of each other will drive each other crazy...

Buy each a seperate cage. I had 2 hammies -- and each had 2 cages to himself - look on ebay or craigslist.

Use CareFresh as bedding. Do a Spot clean of the "dirtier" areas of their cages every couple of days by just taking out the dirty bedding and putting in some fresh. Then do a through scrub and clean once a week.

  7. Your hamsters are Syrians and need to be housed alone.

Ideally, you make each hamster their own bin cage - http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=...

Larger, easier to clean, easier to interact with - we've never had a smell problem with ours and because we keep Campbell's we have multiple hamsters per cage.

You can then dismantle your habitrail and use it as toys for inside your two bin cages.

  8. you can get a cage spray that you use to clean it that deorderizes, it's the only thing ive been able to use that helps.

also, using carefresh bedding helps alot too, as it absorbs alot of the odour.

tubes are trickey because they will pruposely go to the washroom in there instead of in their bedding, so they should be rinsed out every 3 or 4 days, with the cage thoroughly washed every week.

i have the habitrail ovo for my mice, and i have to do that for them, otherwise they smell up the whole house! haha..

i found that the deoderizer works well though, it's called cage clena or something, comes in a white spray bottle with a purple label and a bunny/hamster/mouse picture on the front.

    :D

  9. as two hamsters should not be housed together ( they like their own company) the smell could also be your pets letting off scent glands to warn each other to keep away!!

  10. Instead of cleaning it every 5 days, try every 2 or 3..having two syrian hamsters in one cage will eventually lead to them fighting and it also lends to them making such a terrible smell too.

Get two cages, not just one.

  11. Well maybe if there are two hamsters, you might to clean it more often

And/or its the tube, they might take a potty in there

And it stinks up pretty bad

    If you don't clean it

    Good luck :D

    Hope i helps a little

  13. The tube-type cages for rodents are not good when it comes to ventilation or escape.

When you have a plastic cage there's a chance they might chew their way out and air circulation is poor.

2Hammies would do way better in a 15-20 gallon aquarium-which may cost a lot but they'd have more room and you could put more cardboard and wood structures for them to play in.

If you get a larger cage like this, it will be less likely to stink. Carefresh is good bedding-don't use pine or cedar-inhaling phenols is bad for the respiratory tract.

If you get a 15 gallon aquarium, and give them about 3 inches of bedding, you could get away with not cleaning it for about 2 weeks possibly.

I have one gerbil in a 20 gallon which some people would say is extreme, but she is so happy.

I clean it with water and vinegar(pet safe) and use  paper towels. I only have to clean it 1x/month usually.

If you get the tank with the snap on screen lid-clicks into place and provides good air circulation which will prevent stinky situations.

    Good luck.
