Hamster confusion please help!!!?

I have built my hamster a play cage which she goes in everyday because she loves to climb and play with her toys.

but...

every time i put her in the play cage the very first thing she does is gather as much food as possible and then plays in the cage with it in her pouches for about 30minutes before returning it to where she found it.

However... when i put her back into her other cage she plays around for a while and then goes to bed, with no food gathering at all.

Also another question is, is it alright to put her in the play cage everyday as a change of environment or is it confusing her and making her unhappy being moved so much.

  1. your hamster probably doesn't feel as safe in her play cage than in her normal cage which might be why she stores her food but then she probably thought it was uncomfortable while playinig and just decided to put it back again.

    i think it's okay to put in play cage everyday, as long as it's not too long, maybe like 15 minutes. not long enough to cause stress


  2. She needs exercise and a play cage sounds like a good idea. The food gathering is probably part of a routine she has and it's not a problem at all. At least I don't think.

  3. I built my hammy a play pen just like you & she loves it. I put mine in there not one but two times a day cos she's so lively.

    It's natural for them to fill there pouches, carry & empty. Mine does exactly what your one does. And i was worried at first because i didn't want her to become under nourished. And i didn't think it was normal.

    As long as she has fresh food available all the time (in her cage & pen) she will be just fine.    

  4. she is most likely gathering her food because she might think that you will take it away so she gathers some to stop you taking it all. putting her in the play Cage is ok but i don't think they like being move allot so i would only put her in it every other day instead of everyday
