Question:

Hamster escape... Looks hurt.

My hamster escaped tonight while I was gone, but I found her as soon as I got home. She fell from at least 2 feet, most likely 3. I'm worried she may die. She is laying on her side sleeping and it is 11:00 p.m. Is there a big chance she could die?

  1. My hamster fell 4 feet while she was sick.  My dad was feeding her by hand and she struggled out of his hands while he was standing.  She started breathing really hard and my dad felt aweful.  My hamster actually recovered quite fast.  She has fallen several other times while being healthy and sick.  The drop is always a shock for a hamster and can sometimes lead to broken bones but I wouldn't be worried about 2-3 feet too much.  I guess it depends on your hamster - Is she really old and/or really sick?  If not she should be okay.  If she does not recover after a few hours maybe something else happend to her outside the cage.  If shes still bad tomorrow you could take her to the vet to see if she has any broken bones.  If your hamster did break something and isn't too old, she should recover from that fine.  I hope she feels better!

  2. im not sure... my hamster used to escape( i'm not sure how) but she must have fallen from about the hight of a table and she was fine. your hamster might just be tired

  3. if she landed on carpet she should be fine..and shes probly laying on her side cuz shes stressed from the fall and tired. but im sure she will be fine.

  4. Both of my dwarf hamsters fell about 4 feet when they escaped their cage. But they're fine. Check your hamsters back. Put a teeny bit of pressure in various places, and if she seems to be in pain, then you need to take her to the vet or she will die. Pick her up and make sure she can still walk.

She should be fine, maybe a little bruised but all that needs is a good sleep.
