Question:

Hamster eye "popped" out...now what?

My kids were playing with our "little Vader" and they brought him down with one eye popped out and it was bleeding. He is a black bear hamster; the bleeding has stopped and he is acting very normal. I called the emegency vet and was told to use a warm cotton ball to clean the area and to put on some anti bac oitment. Aside from taking him to the vet, will he be fine if I just leave him be? Is there anything else at home I can do?

  1. holy moly!  i am so sorry.  with humans, you can tape a cup over the area so no dirt or anything will get into the eye.  i don't think that would work with a hamster though.  he would just knock the cup off.  actually, i think anything you tried to do, the hamster would pick and scratch at.

i'm sorry i can't be of more help.

you also might want to watch the kids with the hamster from now on.  things happen so fast; you don't want the little thing to get hurt, i mean again.

    i hope Vader is ok.

  2. TELL YOUR CHILDREN TO STAY AWAY FROM ALL SMALL ANIMALS!

  3. I think you should take him to the vet, don't leave him like that. I had hamsters before and my daughter has had them also.

I don't know what the vet will do, but he would be the best one to help you out.

  4. ew

  5. Umm... get a new hampser? The kids won't know the difference!

  6. Watch your children play with the hamster they could of killed it. Just hope that you can keep your hamster happy and let it survive

  7. it is a serious injury it is normal and your hamster might die

  8. if skin has grown around the eye than he is ok but just to be safe keep him in your room if he seems to get worse take him to a vet also check his eye daily both of them he could he blind but that's rare so just try to clean his eye with out hurting or infecting his eye

  9. This same thing happened to a teddy bear hamster I bought at PetSmart, but no one had been messing with her when it happened.  I went to feed her and her left eye was popping out of her head! I had no idea what to do so I took her to PetSmart and they told me their vet would look at her and they would call me when she had recooperated.  Unfortunately I never got a call back from them :[   Just prepare your children for the worst just incase he doesn't make it.  Mine didn't.  They never told me what was wrong with her, but they said it was common.  The only difference between your hamster and mine is that mine's eye wasn't bleeding.  It was just popped out of her head.

I'm sorry if this didn't help much but your children might not have done it.  No one had been messing with my hamster when her eye popped out of her head.

  10. just leave him to sleep...
