Question:

Hamster eyes/coat colour question?

My hairless hamster just had babies and she has red eyes. I'm not sure about the male because it was an unexpected birth, she got pregnant in the petstore. She has a litter of 6.

So here are my questions:

1. Is it possible one of them could be hairless as well?

2. If the male had red eyes, what combination would I get? Would I get a mixed litter, or is it completely unknown?

3. If the male had black eyes, what combination would I get? Would it be unknown as well?

  1. Chances are half of them will be hairless as long as the male carries the hairless gene (recessive)  If he doens't then no hairless hamsters.

The red eye is a recessive gene and must be carried on both sides.  He wouldn't have to have red eyes, but just carry the gene.

If he doesn't have the red eye gene, you'll get black eyes.  If he has the gene, but black eyes, you'll get half red eyes half black eyes.
