My dwarf hamster never eats out of his food bowl because i scatter bits in the bedding. Plus when i take out his food, A lot is still left. Should i put less food? Because i feel like i'm wasting hamster food a lot.

  1. That sounds pretty normal. He probably hoards the food you scatter through the bedding and eats that, only going to the regular bowl when he feels his supply is getting low. When do you take it out and why? I would suggest filling the bowl only half full, and refilling it when most of the food is gone. In my experience, dwarf hamsters are different than Syrians when it comes to food. Unlike a Syrian hamster (who will usually hoard all the food from the bowl), a dwarf hamster is more likely to only take what he needs.

  2. i wouldnt put it in the sawdust i no it good because they like to scavenge but fod that does not get eaten will rot and can caus sickness just put it in the bowl or put it in a pile on the floor dont spread it and just cut back slightly and dont forget hamsters store food so there probably some in there home

  3. YES! lol. That stuff is expensive as it is. Plus they hide food every where and just because the dish is empty doesn't mean there starving trust me. Ever noticed when you clean out the cage the little stashes of food scattered about? When the bowl is empty they know to find there stash. Its there way of survival. Good luck.
