Question:

Hamster hair loss? Help?

I noticed my dwarf hamster looked a little less in fur towards the hind legs and rear. I didn't think much of it, but later, I checked again, and he's lost even more fur, and there are small dots of red on the skin. He lives with 2 other male dwarf hamsters, and they fight occasionally, but it's normally the other 2 hamsters that often fight, not him. But he's the one that looks really unhealthy.

Please, does anyone know what I can do to help him? :(

  1. Sometimes hair loss comes with age, but the red dots might not be a good sign. I would take him to a vet to make sure!

Good luck, I hope your little one is ok :)

  2. It *could* be stress, or another disease - however I can't tell you the exact disease, because many diseases can cause hair loss.

When hamsters are stressed they may pull out their fur - just like a bird would pull out its feathers - also, if it has fleas and is scratching alot, it might end up pulling the fur out anyway.

All I can suggest is, either being more quiet around the rodent (Loud constant noises such as the television or music, can cause stress or nervousness), checking the cage to see if any rotten uneaten food is in the cage (He might be allergic to the spores it creates, or it is the source of the disease), giving him more toys (He could be bored) and of course; Taking him to the vet - Only THEY can provide the correct treatment for your hamster, if it is a disease.

Also, check if they're leaving wet poo around cause this could be fatal.

  3. vet..

  4. put some rogane foam on him!

he'll be a little poof ball in no time!
