  1. try to remove it yourself, cut the hampster head off (be shore to be carefule) and remove the lump. then stick the head back on.

  2. Old hamsters are prone to tumours and the big lump does sound to be a tumour. If you feel like, you can consult a vet for a confirmation.

Normally vets do not do surgery on hamsters to remove tumours. The reason being surgery on such a small old animal is complicated and it does not give guaranteed results.

If it is confirmed to be a tumour, please be ready for the truth that such tumours cannot be cured. In that case, my personal advice to you (though it might sound hard, trust me, it is from my own experience) would be to let the hamster live happy for the rest of her life and if the tumour appears to cause the hamster pain, or grows so large that the hamster finds it difficult to move, it is kinder to let your vet put the hamster to sleep.

  3. My daughter's hamster has a bump or growth on it too.  I wouldn't worry about it, as long as the hamster seems fine, don't go incurring any vet bills just to have the vet tell you there's nothing they can do about it.  I'm not taking my daughter's hamster in.  They don't live that long anyway.  I know that sounds cruel but come on, it's a hamster, not a dog or a cat.
