What causes rabies on hamsters and what are the symptoms?

Hamsters dont get rabies. Only when something that has rabies, something like a bat... then it bites your hamster, thats when it can get infected with rabies.

Rabies is rare in rodents so I don't think you have anything to worry about. One weird symptom of rabies is fear of water. Any other illness is unlikely to cause this reaction. Stick a bowl of water in with your sick little guy and see what happens. Be very careful not to get bit though because that is how the infection is spread and the shots they have to give you requires big ugly needles.

Domestic hamsters don't get rabies.

You only need to be concerned if they get bitten by a confirmed rabid animal- it doesn't just appear within them.
