but my hamster he was really nice and he let me hold him right away :D

  2. What we did with my daughters hamster was get one of those clear exercise balls(pet stores or pet co)and she would hold him in that and about after 2 weeks he stopped biting her...also reach in the cage a pet him/her allot, that also helps them get to know you.

  3. DON"T allow anybody new to hold the hamster. The hamster would bite any new person unless it is the person whose smell he has gotten used to. I have attached my guide to taming hamsters. Hope it helps you make your hamster become your best friend for life.

    Guide to taming hamsters -

Taming your hamster can be a long process, don't expect your hamster to suddenly like be handled over night. It can take weeks or even months depending on the hamster. Here the the steps to handling a hamster -

STEP 1 - When you first get your hamster leave it alone for the first 2 - 3 days to let it get used to it's new cage and surroundings. If you pick him up on the first day itself, he will definitely bite you since you are a stranger to him.

STEP 2 - Once the hammy seems comfortable in his new cage, start talking to him softly and hang around his cage enough for him to get used to your voice and smell. After this time feed your hamster some treats from your hand so he get used to seeing your hand. This might take a few days to happen but be patient. If you feel that the hamster still bites you, you can use gloves initially.

PRECAUTION - always interact with the hamster only when he is active. If you touch him or disturb him when he is sleeping, he can get angry and bite viciously.

STEP 3 - Once your hamster seems confident with taking treats out of your hand you can try to start handling your hamster. Before you handle your hamster make sure you have washed your hands well. Hamsters have a strong sense of smell. If they smell something on your hand they may mistake it for food and decide to bite!

Get a cup or something similar and place it into the hamster's cage. He should come to investigate and crawl inside. Take the hamster and cup out of the cage and let him walk out onto your hand. While you do this make sure you're sat down or sat close to the floor incase your hamster decides to jump. Let him walk from hand to hand. Be careful you don't grab or wrap your hands around your hamster until he is fully tame as this may scare him and he will jump out of your hand.

STEP 4 - Once your hamster is more confident with you, you can start to pick up your hamster straight from it's cage. Just make sure your hamster is aware that you are there, if not you may suddenly scare the hamster and it may turn around and bite you.

Best way to hold hamsters is to make them climb into one hand and cupping the other hand softly over the body so that his head pokes out from the gap between your two hands. Remember, do not apply any pressure on his body, he will get scared and snap at you.

  4. I've had hamsters (11 at a time once)

anyways, wear gloves at first, just keep it in your hand where s/he can explore and get comfortable... keep doing this for about a week, once the hamster is used to this, use one glove to hold him/her, and let your other hand be glove free, pet the hamster so s/he gets used to human contact, after about a week of that it should be fine! :D

good luck and happy training! (remember, never get mad at a hamster, duh!... its their instincts to bite when scared)

  5. Just handle him. You can't really be afraid. The more you handle him the more tame he'll get, it really doesn't hurt too much. Don't ever pick up your hamster out of the cage if he's sleeping. He WILL bite then. Wait until they're awake or make sure you wake him before putting your hand in. Don't force your fingers or hand at him or corner him, because he'll get defensive. Let him come to you and eventually he'll be really docile.

  6. It is normal for hamsters to bite maybee you should get him wood treats and stop biteing people and start biting wood like most do it is normal for hammies to do this but mine when i got him he liked me right away he even liked my finger instead of biting it! Lol! try feeding him by hand some times and he will like you. Here is some links to get treats and wood, http://www.petco.com/product/10771/super... http://www.petco.com/product/10771/super... http://www.petco.com/product/104963/appl... http://www.petco.com/shop/petco_productl... ! And does he get enough sleep because if they get tired or stressed out they will bite! This makes them feel more comefy when they sleep, http://www.petco.com/product/3203/sam-be...

Give your hammie time to adapt to his new surroundings too!

  7. just set your hand in the cage and let him get used to your sent he might try to taste you but just pull away real quick before he bit real hard. but interact with him often and he'll soon get used to you and wont bite. usually its always good to hold a hamster with 2 hands. good luck to ya!

  8. you should buy a hamster book from like petco and it will tell you how to hold them. when you hold them in a ball they feel like your gonna hurt them so they bite you and thats the only self defense they have. you have to hold them with your hands open. but dont let it jump down. trust me ive had over 20 hamsters and ive got bit a few times. and the hamster has to get use to you and its new enviorment so take it out of the cage and play with it everyday. i had a hamster that used to bite me and my mom but when u start playing with it everyday it gets used to you and ive had that hamster for 4 years and it hasnt bite me at all anymore.

and it depends on the hamster like when i buy a hamster i tell the person who works at the pet store to pick up the hamster to see if its a biter. some hamster arnt use to humans so yeah i hope i helped!

    -peace-

  9. use strong garden gloves to hold him and offer him food from a bare hand , wen he has da confidence to take food from ur hand start placing ur hand in da cage so e can *** and go as he pleases dont traumatize him by taking him out of da cage at this stage as this will prevent him wanting to *** agen , just lift him about 3-4 cm from da ground and gradually make it higher then take him out the cage always sit down when u r holding him soon u will have a happy and contented hamster . try hhtp://www.hamstergalore.co.uk . best of luck xx

  11. Go to google and type in the question! Or if that does not help and you want him to get used to you pick him up with gloves! And he will think hey they will even though i bit someone! Then hopefully he will stop! And he will be the cute little Chinese hamster he would be!
