I want to get a hamster and I have permission, but I need help!

I need to know all about hamsters!

Does anyone have any good sites?

Also I love animals, and my parents think I am responsible enough, but I don't want to be a bad pet owner! How do I know if a hamster is right for me? I have time everyday, I'm not very busy...

help!

  1. i have the same problem! about rats

i would just go to google and type up hamsters!

you will learn almost everything that way

  2. Email me anytime, for wuestions.

  3. Hamsters are friendly, loving and socable rodents.  They love to be talked to and get use to people fast.  A hamster needs loving care and need alot of attention.  A good hamster owner has theese qualitys:

    1) Cleans there  cage once every week

    2) talks to them, and provides food and fresh water EVERY day.

    3) Provides Time to spend with them

    4) Never gives them food with sugar, salt, pepper, dairy products, (but those that are made for hamsters or rodents), Cabbege, watermelon, blueberrys, or spices.

    5) Loves their hamster!! :)

REMEMBER: their life span is short,  all the hamsters i have had do not live longer than 2 years.  You get attached to them and all of a sudden, their gone. :( i would think about getting a hamster first, and if you decied that you want a pet that will have a shprt life span then go ahead, im not telling you not to get one, im just trying to keep you from getting hurt.  If you decied not to get a hamster, then maybe a Guniea Pig would be better? They have a lot of the same qualities as hamster, except they live longer, and are bigger. they live 4-8 years.        I don;t know many Hamster sites, but if you are looking for names, then you can go to Funpetnames.com, they have millions of names for your pet. :)

    Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =)

  4. what u should do is get a nice big cage for it to run around in, then, have a food bowl in there with food and have a water bottle in there for it to drink water. then sometimes hamsters need bedding in there cage so make sure he has that. and a wheel in there to run in. and also a ball for him to run around the house. so that way he isnt in the cage allday long.

  5. i just got a hamster 1 week ago and  i have some advise ..

make shure your hamster has enough room to wander around in its cage and also get a ball so he can wander around the house in hamsters also love to be loved so pet them as much as you want. when your picking up your hamster you can get a started kit telling you all about your hamster and what you need to do. if you ever go away on a holiday give it to one of your friends who you know will take care of it. aslo suplie your pet with the following things

food dish, food, water bottle, water, a weel to run in, maybe treats, a ball to run around the house in, and a salt l**k so you hamster will bite on that instead of the cage. don't forget to make shure you hamster has a bedding.

you can use carefresh, pine shavings, aspen shavings and a thing called yesterdays news. WARING do not use cedar shavings for when your hamster goes pee it sets off a smell and it is posioniose to your hamster.

also make shure you hamsters cage is closed at all time as your hamster will excape during the night.

when feeding your hamster treats get something called hamster drops it is made by living world. there are many difirent flavors but i know my hamster likes feildberry the best. Also only feed one of these treats to your hamster a day,

choosing a hamster is a really fun part to do but you have to choose the one you know you will love for 2-3 years. dwarf hamster are small and could get lost easily if it gets out of the cage so be carefull about it. i have a hamster called a syrain it is big and much easier to take care of. if you choose to buy a syrain hamster in the store  it will not say syrain hamster it will just say "hamster" the syrain hamster is also known as the "teddy bear hamster"

any further questions please email me at bananatiana@yahoo.com

  6. No, do not get a cage with more than 2 levels, and make sure it's a wire cage! When you've found the right hamster for you, you will think it's really cute, not wan to put it down, and LOVE it! To take care of a hamster, it should have a ball big enough for it to fit in, a good diet, and a good room temperature to live in. First, your hamster diet should be hamster mix, veggies, and treats. For hamster mix I suggest Vita-Vittles for hamsters and Gerbils, it prevents tooth overgrowth and gives your hamster a good diet. Here is a mix of veggies my hamster loves! Dry oatmeal, apples,  and carrots. Here is a lsit of ok veggies: Carrots, apples, strawberries, celery, dry oatmeal, and tomatoes. AVOID any other fruits or nuts. For treats, I suggest Veggie Puffs or Vitakraft honey kracker sticks (that's how they spell it on the package!) You should try putting your hamster in his ball every day for at least 15 minutes. Give him 3 treats a day tops if you want him to be healthy and active! Try to get your hamster at a local Petsmart or Petco, they have the healthiest hamsters. Whatever you do, DO NOT GET THE HABITRAIL OVO CAGE! It could kill your hamster the way it's not ventillated enough an d gets stuffy, plus, it takes hours to clean. I will put pictures of recommendations at the end of my answer. I will recommend Premium Pine Bedding for bedding/litter/shavings. Try holding your hamster for 15 minutes at the least every other day. This is a good way to bond with your hamster, if you have littler brothers/sisters watch out! they try to hold your hamster behind your back and when you're not there. Believe me, I have 2 little brothers! Anyways, um, where was I... Oh, yeah! OK, so always have some toys to give your hamster, I will put some recommendations at the end. Put your hamster in a warm room, NOT HOT, in cold seasons, and a cool, NOT COLD, room in the warm seasons. Good luck and hope I helped!

  7. I used to have 2 hamsters! What you have to do is give them lots of love [play with them a lot], and clean their cage once every 2 weeksishh. You also need to make sure that they have enough food &water. When picking out a hamster, if the store allows it, play with a few of the hamsters &hold them to see which one you feel the most comfortable with. Here's a good website with info about hamsters:

    http://www.petwebsite.com/hamsters.asp

    Here's another:

Hamsters are a joy to have so have fun with it! Good Luck (:

  8. I have 10 hamsters

they're little funny pets but they are very weak

they're food is carrot- Lettuce - Walnut - and dry bread

they always use a marked place to p**s and it has a very bad smell! and you have to clean it every day.

and use straw for this place

separate male and female hamsters becasue they fight and maybe they will have babies!

if u r a busy person it's better to take care about them so much because maybe they die

they're life long is 3 years

and the pregnancy time is about 14 days

they're kind pets but useless! ;)

  11. I had a hamster, they are fairly easy to take care of and also very neat. They even p**p in the same spot after awihle.

My hamster's cage was a fishtank, which was fine for me but some people object against the idea. It's best to get a plastic tank, since hamsters can gnaw through metal wired cages.

Before you get your hamster, talk to a pet store employee and they'll give you all the help you need :)
