Question:

Hamster help!?!!?

About a month ago my two dwarf hamsters disappeared. I have a cat, and we assumed that she had gotten into their cage, even though we don't really know how. Two weeks ago, she brought out, from her hiding place, a dead and decomposing hamster. But today, about an hour ago, she brought out another. We thought it was dead but she dropped it and it ran. I had to chase the cat down to get the hamster away, and I'm sure that only made the bites worse. I caught the hamster and I have put her in a smaller cage lined with some toilet paper and cotton balls. I've given her food and water, and a bit of carrot. I cleaned up two punctures, one in her ear, and one on her neck, with hydrogen peroxide. I washed her up with a wet washcloth and dried her up, and now I'm watching her. Any advice!? I'm so worried about her, she's so little, and I have no idea if she's eaten or drank anything in the time she was missing!

  1. Number one I would keep the hamster cage in a room with the cat staying OUT! and reinforce the the cage because hamsters are masterminds at escaping. Feed it healthily and plentifully. Keep a close eye  on her. It was good and smart to clean the punctures. make sure she's comfy.

I'd be just as worried as you.

  2. That hamster is a survivor...

  3. Shame poor thing, maybe be more loving around the hamster.

  4. find a cge to put the cat in.

  5. you should take her to the vet, they'll clean her up and tell you what to do.

  6. I would take them to the vet.  Good luck!

  7. Take her to the vets

  8. If the cat has broken it's neck, there's really nothing you can do to save it unfortunately. I would call a vet asap. Just keep an eye on it and good luck to you!

  9. Considering the injuries I would seriously suggest taking the poor little gal to the vet to get checked.

The vet could also tell you about how well she's been eating/drinking if at all since she disaappeared.

Good luck.  Hope she gets better.

  10. My hamster got hurt once, I didn't know how but I kept cuddling her and speaking kindly in a very soft voice to calm her. and keep the wounds clean, if they start oozing pus or something you might want to take her to the vet (probably should anyway)

All you can really do is keep an eye on her and reassure her, if she's calm and not moving around as much the wounds won't get worse, hopefully.

Good luck to both of you and I hope she'll be ok

  11. Take her to the vet to get checked out.  They usually don't charge much for hamsters.

  12. That little thing is a fighter! I would call the vet and see what they think. I hope she gets better!
