Hamster hurt leg?

Question

The cat knocked over my cage and my hamster got pinned under his house he is now limping i cant take him to the vet till sat payday but what can i do for him in the mean time? Should i just call my vet and tell him to send me a bill in the mail? My hamster seems fine though he is running around like crazy still just with a slight limp he seems to be trying to use his leg i just caught him climbing up his wire cage and he seems to be able to use that leg a little maybe its just a sprain(since i took out his Wheel and blocked all his tunnels he is bored i guess) so i took him out and put him in my sisters old hermit crab home (one of those starter kits the plastic containers with lids even has a hole for water) and i put in his favorite hiding spot his coconut shell (was for my sister's hermit crab but he loves it) and he is sleeping in it now

What can i do in the meantime before i can take him to the vet tomorrow.

First off, you may not realize how little a vet can do for your hamster and how much you're doing for the vet.

The vet cannot put a cast on the gerbil because the glue is probably toxic and the gerbil will just chew it off.

The vet will, however, charge you a TON.  First off, it's going to cost $40 or so for an office visit, then $?? + dollars for whatever he gives you in the means of medicine.

If you're willing to pay that much, go ahead.  I took a hamster to the vet once and $120 though and he still died..

As for what you can do in the mean time, I would recommend saving up some money to take him to vet , but holding off on it for a couple days.  If he was only sprained, then it'll heal up in a few days.  If it is broken, you could probably see a lot of swelling and//or discoloration of the skin from a bruise.  While you might see all this from a sprain as well, I think you could perhaps make a decision as to whether it is broken or not.  

Give him a few days, he might just be spooked, and he might get over it.  Saving you lots of money.

In the end, if it is broken, the only thing the vet will do is take you on a guilt trip and get you to put him to sleep which is probably $60+

okay  you warp it is a wet paper towel or another clothe    just make sure he dosent chew it      take out everything so he cant climb!!!!    and just watch him and make sure he is okay(with the surcomstanses)

well if he is still running he might jst recover fine but i would still keep an eye on him just in case.

and ya its smart to call the vet to inform them that it limping but stll running and playing.  

but i think he will be fine until tomorrow
