Hamster insides falling out! What do I do?

Lucy will be two years old around the first of October. She lives alone in an aquarium. She is awfuly fiesty! She is active -but hasn't been eating normally. She is usualy a pig - but she hasn't been eating that much. Today I took her out to clean her cage and noticed she wasn't feeling well. Looked thinner and was just not active. She just kind of sat there and now only a few hours later she won't even try to bite me or climb into a toilet paper roll! I picked her up and her insides look like they have fallen out of her body! It is 11:30 here an no vet will be open this time of night! What do I do? I held her for a bit, but then figured I would be hurting her too much. She is in pain - she has to be - she keeps wiping at her head. I laid her back in her cage and put her hut over her to make her feel safe. I laid some food in front of the her. I gave her some milk and bread earlier and she ate that - but now she can't even move!

Please help!

  1. There are 24 hour vets, look one up in your area. It sounds like she may have inadvertently lacerated her stomach or something. Hope everything goes ok........

  2. It sounds like she might have prolapsed, but I honestly don't know myself. If you can't find an emergency vet, it might just be best to leave her alone, and if she makes it through the night, rush her in.

That is a horrible thing to have happened. I'm so sorry :(

  3. Take the hamster to the vet!

  4. there should be a 24 hour vet clinic open somewhere around.  If not there is nothing you can do just wait until tomorrow

  5. What do you mean her insides look as though they have fallen out.. Are her intestines laying there??  If so there are always emergency vets, you may need to go further.  But if you arent willing to do that, then there is nothing to do but wait, and see.  If she makes it and you are willing to spend money( and not to be mean but it sounds like she will not be able to be helped) on a lost cause.. Make your peace, and I am sorry if you lose her.

  6. Check to see if there is an Emergency Vet in your area.  Some Vet Clinics also have a vet on call for emergencies.

  7. depending on how close you are with lucy, my best guess would be to call or take her to the vet.

  8. Poor baby. She must have gotten into something. By chance did you have a plastic wheel in her cage? I have lost two hamsters by them eating the wheel that was attached to the inside of the cage- it ends up doing to them what you say is wrong with yours. I am so sorry. Just keep her warm, there isn't much you can do.

  9. um call a vet hotline or somthing look up answers on www.google.com

that sounds terrible im so sorry for you and ur lil hamster...

  10. Leave her alone. If she's not dead by morning, take her to the vet and have her put to sleep.

Not wanting to be mean or anything...just telling it like it is.

  11. Wow if her insides are falling out I guess perhaps it is over for her, the only thing you can try to do now is take her to the vet so they can end her suffering.

  12. D:: im so sorry,  I dont know but I think when the vet opensa you should get her there ASAP!! Hope for the best, but she is old.  she may die, sorry D:::  if shes alive tomorrow morning i suggest you get her to the vet.  I dont really know what to do until then.. leave heer be i guess.

  13. Like are her entrails actually.....OUTSIDE of her body?  Like is there a wound or something they could come out of?  I'm having a hard time picturing this... she's still alive?

  14. well, the typical life expectancy of a hamster is 1.5-2 years, so, based on what you've written here, I'm sorry to say it, but it sounds like your hamster is going to pass very soon-

a vet really cannot do much for her at this point because she is dying from old age-

best thing is to make sure she is lying on something soft & rub her back lightly. she will probably pass before the morning-

the exact same happened to our hamster about 9 mos ago-

  15. The best I can say is let her be for he night, and if she is still alive in the morning (sorry if she's not) take her too the vet. There's not much you can to just leave her be so you don't hurt her or anything, and have her put to sleep if there is nothing they can do. I know the average life expectancy for them is about 1-3 years, so even though she's a bit far off, well it might be her time. Sorry dear best of luck to you :)
