  1. I think it got sick because you didn't clean out the cage. Clean it out every 1 or 2 weeks so it doesn't get sick. Also make sure it's not cold in that room, it might think it should hibernate. Also, TAKE IT TO THE VET!!!!!

  2. I have taken out the following information from the website -

    http://www.petwebsite.com/hamsters

It says shivering in hamsters can be due to any of the following -

    1. Cold or Flu or respiratory infections

    2. Shock

    3.Lung Infection

    4. Heat Stroke

I think you better take him to a vet since any of the four conditions require medicines and professional help!

  3. Take him to the vet. He probably has a sickness.

  4. How long have you had the hamster?  Is he close to a cool or cold spot if so that is not good. Keep him in a not so cool spot where he's like at a comforting room temp.

  5. Try to keep his cage away from doors and windows and opt for the warmest part of the room. Is he in his nest? It sounds to me like he could be too cold, when hamsters get cold they tend to hibernate.

Try blowing on him, this should prevoke a reaction. Take him to a vet asap.

  6. Hamsters, like humans, can have bad dreams.  I've woken up my hamsters when they were in deep sleep.  They were either shivering or crying when I found them, but after they woke up, they calmed down after awhile.  Your hamster may have just had a bad dream.

A lot of times animals don't like to be pushed around.  I know when I try pushing my chinchilla off to the side (I did this with hamsters too) they try their hardest to stay put.  So that's not really a problem.  They just don't like being bossed around.

Now as for the cleaning the cage out--  I hope you meant you just recently got him.  He might be cold if you guys have your AC on high.  Check the basics:  Food, water, bedding.  Give him an unscented tissue to shred up and make a nest out of.  This could help him if he's cold.  Make sure his cage is not in front of a window.  I shouldn't have to tell you that's bad. ^^

Give him a few days.  Sometimes hamsters have off days, grouchy days, etc.  If he's still acting like that after a few days, be sure to do a google search about the persisting symptoms.

  7. He could have a bad dream like the other person said they can have bad dreams too.Or maybe it just could be cold.Move it to a warmer room.

  8. He may be too hot. Move him to a cool spot and cover a icewater bottle with a washcloth and put it in his cage. if he doesn't get better, take him to the vet [unless he dies by then.]

  9. how long have you had him, because you need to change his  bedding 1 a week. Maybe he is shivering because he is cold, hamsters should be kept between 70 an 84 degrees ferenheight. The should be kept out of drafts and direct sunlight. Some times if hamsters are to cold, they go into hibernation, my dwarf hamster did that once in the winter... Remember hamsters and dwarf hamsters sleep during the day, so just because you are back from swimming doesn't mean he will be awake. Maybe call a vet and ask their oppinion on weather he should be looked at. Good Luck!
