Hamster problem!?

Question

so i have this hamster and i got him like three or four days ago and i bought this hamster cage for it...

but my hamster is vary tiny and it wont go into the wheel on the top (u kno the wheel where they run to get excersise).

so he like wont go in the wheel and i dont kno why.

i think it might be because hes so small and cant get up it.

anny suggestions??

Maybe when he faces the side of the wheeel he sees the bottom and is afraid if he will fall he is small.(P.S.Love the cage.)

If he is very small, then he probably can't get up there.

A ten gallon tank with a screen top would be good for him. He doesn't need a bunch of levels to climb on, since hamsters are more ground dwelling. You can get him the tiny wheels that Petsmart sells, and put it in there for him. That way he can reach it without any trouble.

You can buy a ten gallon cage and screen top at Wal-mart for about $18, I think. It's a lot cheaper than Petsmart.

Try putting a trail of his favorite treats leading up the green ramp (sunflower seeds, yogurt drops, veggies....) Hamsters have a great seance of smell even when they are little.  Put a pile of the treats in the wheel. Keep doing that for a few days, and hopefully he will get the hang of it sooner or later.

If that doesn't seam to be working at all, is there any possible way that you could lift him up and place him into the wheel? He might not even know that it exists.  If you do get him up there, give the wheel a gentle spin so he knows that it actually moves (lol) and then reward him with a treat. He will climb back down the green spiral stairs and know that that leads to the wheel.

Maybe Get a different cage where the wheel is on the first floor. or if its possible get smaller tubes.

When you got him was there a wheel in his cage? If not he may not know what it is just let him discover it himself. That's what happened to my hamster, she uses it but not that much. They have to be introduced at a young age or they have no idea what it is.

no he probably can.. i have dwarf hamsters and that exact same cage. you hamster probably dosnt even know its up there yet. try putting him in the wheel and letting him get down. then he will figure out that he can get up the same way also. but its also a good idea not to let him get to comfortable up there... he will make it his bed and bring shavings up there also.. and i will tell you, it is extreemly hard to clean it out. after a wile i just took it out. its not worth the trouble just buy one that can be hooked on to the side of the cage and it will save you a whole lot of cleaning time trust me!

If you just got him he probably isn't full grown yet. It's also likely that he's never seen an exercise wheel before and doesn't know how to use it. Just wait awhile, he'll figure it out.

eigther he doesn't care for it or he is too tiny, you provide a ramp for him, plus when they are tiny or have anough room that they don't really need anymore excercize...... just wait is what i would do
