  1. get a hairless hamster

  2. You cannot, if you are allergic to them you don’t even have to handle them, for them to cause a reaction, just being in the same room is enough, so you would not be able to keep it in your room. It is not the fur you have to worry about. One of the major causes of allergic reactions to animals is not the hair / fur, but what’s actually under it. Small scales from the skin, hair of the animal, are known as dander. Dander occurs naturally as the epidermis, (this is the outer layer of skin) renews itself. This is very similar to dandruff on humans, but only much smaller. Dander can have allergic reactions to sensitive individuals, it is small, and light, and can remain airborne for very long periods of time. The animal’s hair / fur is not considered to be a very significant allergen.

With rabbits, rats, mice, hamsters and guinea pigs the most important sources of allergens are the saliva and urine. Once dry, these secretions become airborne and can be a source of allergic reactions.

  3. You can't.

You're allergic, they're allergic. Handling will cause a reaction, as will cleaning them out, the hamster moulting... So unless you keep them in a fish tank with a glass lid, never handle it, never clean it out, and vaccum everyday, you will still have allergies.

If pills work for you, you can take pills to reduce the allergy, but there's nothing you can do to stop the hamster's fur shedding.

Short hair hamster also shed fur, so don't listen to people saying get a short hair one- you'll still suffer from your allergies unless it doesn't have fur at all.

And also they won't run out of hamsters. They get them delivered.

Like people are saying, try a hairless one. I don't know anything about them- I work in a pet shop, but we don't sell hairless anything!- but people who are allergic to cats get hairless cats with no problems, so you could try that.

  4. get a shorthaired one- you can always get a furless hamster! get an aqaurium that  is well ventilated.

  5. i had the same problem. all you have to do is get a cage with tubes, and get an air filter. all you do is put the air filter on the end of a tube and make sure your hammy cant get into the air filter using a  cap, for the end of the tube. make sure there are little holes in the cap so the air can get through but not so big that your hammy fits. it really works!

  6. I suggest getting a hairless hamster. You can usually find them at Petco. Before taking on a hamster, make sure you have an appropriate location and space for the cage. Know that males and females should never be housed together. You must provide your hamster with daily interaction. You must commit to providing for this creature. You have to be mature about this decision, and know that you will be the primary caregiver and companion for this animal. Hairless hamster grow to be 4-5 inches long.

  7. Maybe if a hamster will bother you, you should get a similar but other rodent. You may not be allergic to mice or guinea pigs, and they are both very similar to hamsters.

  8. Trust me there will always be hamsters.. But try to get a hairless hamster.

  9. i have a hamster and it is kept in my room, no one notices that i have it, my mom completely forgot i had one

for the hair problem get a short hair hamster (i have one) and his hair never sheads, plus you might want to get a cage like mine (link on the bottom) it keeps the smell in the cage, so your parents won't smell it eather. p.s get the cage at pets mart! is way cheaper there compared to pet co.

hope i helped! good luck with your hamster problem!

  10. I agree with Law L. Why not try another animal? Are you allergic to chinchillas or bunnies?
