He might a sickness called Wet Tail. this sickness only occurse in hamsters. it is when their butt or tail is kinda yellow ish and wet, they have diarreah. ( this diease can kill)

when i had a hamster that had wet tail i went to petco and they said feed it red cabbage.  its really hard to feed them it so take ot all other food.

Good Luck Hope This Helps :o)

  4. Your hamster has what's called "wet tail".  It is basically diarrhea, but it is fatal if untreated in hamsters.  This is what you need to do:

DO NOT give him any sort of vegetables!  No lettuce, no cabbage, no kale!  I saw another post saying give him cabbage but that is NOT accurate!  I work at Petco, we give cabbage with Benebac powder on it to PREVENT diarrhea, but it will NOT cure it and may make it worse!  The Benebac is what helps against wet tail, but it won't cure it.  Panmycin is what we use and I have used in the past, it is your best bet.

Your hamster needs to see a vet.  The vet will give you an antibiotic (probably panmycin).  You put a few drops of this in his water and also give him a few drops twice a day.  This is the best treatment for diarrhea.  Over the counter drops often mask the symptoms but don't cure it, get panmycin from a vet.

You can give small amounts of Pedialyte to replace the electrolytes he is losing.

Stress MUST be kept to a minimum.  Wet tail is often brought on by stress.  Don't handle him any more than you absolutely have to, and keep him in a quiet place.

Wet tail is treatable.  one of my hamsters had it and recovered fine.  However, it is CRUCIAL that you get help ASAP.  Wet tail can overcome a hamster very quickly, especially small ones like dwarves.  Once I had a Roborovski who died within hours of getting wet tail- she was fine when I went to bed and when i woke up she was dead with a very bad case of wet tail.  Obviously it is the middle of the night but as soon as your vet opens go to them!  Until then, keep him quiet and take away all extras.  no treats, no veggies, just his food.  Good luck, my heart goes out to you.  My hamsters are my babies and I know what you're going through.  You and your little one are in my prayers tonight.

  5. Your hamster needs a vet, quickly.

In the meantime, get a water dropper and force feed him water and Pedialyte (half and half of each).  You have to get some medicine for him but the thing that will kill him is dehydration.  I recommend that and plain yogurt, you will have to force them to eat.  Hold the hamster by the back of the neck and turn him over on his back, you will have to hold his skin back so his mouth will stay open.

I cannot tell you how important keeping them drinking water is.  You will even have to get up often at night to make sure they drink.

    Good luck.

  6. Like Kylie Said! Take it to PETCO! i've read about wet tail, and it DOES kill.

sooooo if you need more information about this disease, go to www.google.com and type in Hamster Disease/Wet Tail.
