im getting my hamster back in about three days. & while he was gone, i changed his cage.

b4 i had a small wire cage with looked pretty boring. now i got him a roomy 20 gal. tank w/toys in it.

i hav his tank at the edge of my desk. my desk is to the right of my window on the right side wall.

my room isn't hot or anything. the temp is pretty cool usually. & the sunlight won't hit him directly. i usually keep my window open with the curtains still down (not to the sides). my curtains r white so the sunlight brightens up my room, but is this safe for my hamster?

  1. As long as he's not in direct sunlight or in a draught it should be fine.

  2. It should be located in an area where the room temperature will remain stable without drafts and away from direct sunlight. (taken from source below-you should read it...it might be useful)

  3. Your hamster should be perfectly fine! I happen to have my hamster's wire cage on a stand right under my window. I have white silk curtains too and the sunlight is not directly on my cage either. Hamsters are nocturnal, so they probably wont even notice the extra light. Just make sure that you have a Hamster Igloo because that will help keep him under the shade, and provide plenty of cool fresh water. Also make sure your room remains room temperature (about 74F)

    Hope I helped! =D

  4. well no because  when its ranig

  5. no its never a good idea to keep a hamster cage near window, just because you will  have the curtains drawn, will not stop the heat from the sun getting in and make the hamster tank like a little oven,it would be like cooking him in a microwave,or oven.best to have him the other side of the room and out of the sunlight.

  6. sunlight isnt good for any animal, and having the cage next to ur window is a bad idea

  7. From what you said he should be okay, as long as the tank isn't in direct sunlight!

  8. Hamsters need to be kept out of direct sunlight, and between 70 and 80 degrees. If That window doesn't get sun, I still wouldn't as hamsters shouldn't be kept in drafts.

  9. its safe as long there isn't direct sunlight

  10. yea i think its okay

but just to be safe and make sure he doesnt get cold, id move the cage away from the window in the winter time

  11. as long as he is out of direct sunlight and drafts, he should be okay

  12. I would think it would be okay as long as you don't expose the hamster to direct sunlight or extreme cold.  However, you may notice that on hot days or very cold days the temperature by your window may be too hot or too cold for the hamster to tolerate.  They are extremely sensitive to hot/cold changes.

Also, I think aquariums are excellent cages but they do not have a lot of ventilation so the little guy can be even more exposed to temperature changes because of the lack of airflow.

If you want him by the window just be watchful of the temperature and don't put him directly in front of the window.
