well i was looking on a website and it said 4 baby hamsters to go to good homes... for free

now most of you would have probably guessed what im talking about but just in case i want one of those hamsters ironically we still have 2 cages from our last pets ( 2 bunnies) they have been left in the cupboard for nearly a year now.

i want to ask my mum if i could get one but i know what the answer will be and plz no one say talk to your mum maibie she will understand but trust me she wont so my option is to go get the hamster and when i come back say that we found them on a street corner and if there is one thing that brakes her heart its abandoned animals

thing is i need to know if its a good idea?

what do u think?

  1. i like ur idea get one or two and say that u found them!!!!

  2. Right.  Frankly, people tend to acquire these free rodents that are advertised to feed their snakes with.

If the idea of abandoned animals breaks your mother's heart, I expect that the idea of a defensless hamster being fed (alive) to a snake that will crush it to death before devouring it will do the same.

So just tell her the truth - and persuade her that you are saving a life by acquiring one.  If you have any friends who would also want one (and, obviously, who will be prepared to take proper care of it) then that would be even better - perhaps you can save them all!

    Good luck!

  3. ha you sound like me when I was younger I would bring home the occational pet and say i'd found it and pretend i was gonna look for the true owner before mum showed a sign of weakness and the bang the hamster and kitty was in the house to stay.

I think that you should be honest re the new pet though - rabbit hutches aren't suitable for hamsters - they chew a lot and you'l findthem gone before you know it . Also they need a nice snug environment. If they get cold they go into a coma and you have to thaw them out on a hot water bottle.  If you rea;y want a hamster and you can look after it then be honest and ask - they arent that expensive to buy any way. Also free to a good home gives an obligation to take it even if its not quite what you expected.

aquarium will be slightly more suitable but - you need toys and things to keep him occupied - of ps I forgot to say before - check what breed they are chinese and russian hamsters are nasty little things golden are def the bes to go for

  4. i think it would be better to sit down and talk to your mom about how you would be responsible and clean the cage!!and maybe offer to pay for some of the expenses!

    good luck!!

  5. If you will give them a loving home and you won't be cheap with the pets, have at it. It is a great idea. Give a baby hamster a new home. You should try it. Never hurt.

    Good luck.

  6. Aquariums are fine if you have a gerbalium on top for a gerbil but they are not suitable for hamsters! Hamsters naturally climb and tunnel and play.  An aquarium is not suitable, also only certain breeds of hamsters can live together when they get older.  If you have two Syrian hamsters they will kill each other when they reach sexual maturity.  So check what breed they are.

Also not telling your mum is really immature.  You never know your mum may give in! My mum did!!

  7. This was my problem two years ago!

Actually, fate helped me. My friend, who is a bit of a rebel, bought herself a hamster without telling her mum and just brought it home, with its cage and everything. Her mum went ballistic, but this girl just stood firm. For the first few days. But she was also pretty naive and didnt realize that hamsters were nocturnal and might wake her up in the night. Or that is she didn't clean the cage out regularly then it might smell. So she got fed up of it, and announced she was going to turn it out onto the streed. I told my mum about it and slipped in the question, and to my complete surprise she agreed that i could buy it off her. In the end I got my hamster, and its cage, and all of its essentials for £10!

For you though, it's slightly trickier. How old are you? Because depending on your age, it could actually work explaining to your mum the situation. DON'T sound like a 6-year-old and say, "Mum, Mum, there are free hamsters that I found, oh please can I have one, please, I'll look after it!" I tried it for years, and it just gets a bad response. Tell her you want a hamsterr, simple as. Tell her you think you can handle it, and you will pay for it. They are very low maintainance, cost wise. You can get a massive bag of food/ sawdust for a pound, that will last several months, maybe even a year if it's a small hamster. DON'T tell her that it won't be much work. Be honest. Say that you aren't excited about the cleaning, but that it's just a small price to pay for having a hamster. This way she'll see you're mature and realistic about this.

    Hope this works! Good luck!

  8. That's pretty suspicious, especially since hamsters won't last long by themselves and being so small would be hard to spot and catch.

  9. Your mum might get suspicious, so make sure you have a backup plan.

  10. i'll tell you right now, i've tried this before.

in california at a reptile convention i tried to buy two baby mice that were going to be fed to snakes for fifty cents. i brought a small cage, bread, milk and ceder chips so i could get the mice back softly.

unfortunately i made the mistake of telling my sister my plans, she told on me and my dad said that if i got the mice he was going to flush them down the toilet. (he was being sarcastic) but that scared me enough.

so i ended up not getting them =(

my best advise would be to not get them, there are too many things that could go wrong without your mom knowing and then you end up with a dead hamster. X.X and none of us want that!

if you make up the street story she may take them as a threat (they might have fleas, ticks, a disease, or even unhealthy themselves)

but then again, i dont know your mom, maybe she will take it. do what you think is right, thats my advise! good luck with whatever you choose! ;D

  11. Well if your positive I think it is a good idea, if she cares for abandonned animals then it will deff work, But if it doesnt that could be a probleme you wil have to give it away or put it "back" on the streeat but i think it wil work here is a link to my hamster website theres soo many fun things; http://my-ham-dolce.piczo.com/?cr=2

  12. If you want to get a hamster they need suitable cages.  A rabbits cage is too big for the hamster and they could injure themselves.  Please don't consider putting them in a rabbits cage. I know you mean well.

I have syrian hamsters and that is why I know a rabbits cage would be unsuitable.
