  1. yea, you have a problem. keep the air condisioner on at medium and hope for the best...poor little guy

  2. I had my last hamster in a wire cage and it did not kill it.

  3. I assume you're traveling in a car (because traveling in a plane would cost hundreds of dollars).  Traveling alone will stress your hamster, so you'll need to do many things to prevent as much additional stress as possible.

    >HEAT:  Do not lay it in the sun.  For one thing, wire cages will not magnify sunlight like glass cages and it will not trap heat in there, but it will still get warm.  Make sure to keep your hamster with fresh water.  Don't use water from fast food restaurants!  Buy bottles water and cool it if it isn't cooled already.

    >FOOD:  You hamster may eat a bit more from the stress just like some people eat when they're stressed out, but do not over feed your hamster.  You should have a good idea of how often you feed your hamster.  Don't go overboard on treats either.

    >NOISE:  I hate to tell you this, but no noise.  No loud music playing, no loud movies, or anything like that.  The hum of the car will be loud enough.  Everyone will have to listen to things really soft or pack up their MP3 Players.

    >BUMPS:  Traveling may be bumpy, but it is best to prevent bumps as best as possible.  Maybe placing a pillow under the cage would absorb some of the bump depending on the pillow.  There's not much to do, but try to encourage your family to take a smoother route if there is one possible.

    >COMFORT:  While having the windows is down, sorry.  The wind isn't too good for your hammy.  You'll have to stick to AC, but even then you can't crank it up too much.  Just like getting over heated, getting chilled isn't good either.

    >REST TRIPS:  While you'll stop for food eventually, I'd have to advise you to drive through and just park in the lot and eat.  Sorry, but the car heats up FAST.  You can't just crack the windows.  A hamster will overheat faster than a dog.  So you'll all have to stick with driving through and eating in the AC.

    >SUPPLIES:  I shouldn't have to tell you this, but you'll need some of his supplies.  Most important, his food.  Wherever you're going, they might not have the same food and switching his diet too fast can make him ill.  So make sure you bring enough food to cover your trip!  Bedding might be a good thing to bring along, but I'm sure they'll have it at a local pet store.  Treats and toys are fine to leave at home if you'd like to spend a little shopping time for him though.  After all, one pet store might not have the same treats and toys as another! (:

It might be easier on you and your family if you left your hamster with a friend or relative, but if you cannot, I wish you the best of luck traveling and a happy hamster!

  4. I take my hamster in the car all the time. Make sure he/she is not in the sun. Cover the nearest window with a light colored towel and make sure they have good air circulation. I take my hamster's water bottle out in the car so the bedding doesn't get all wet, but if I stop to get gas or eat, I give the water bottle back in case he is thirsty.

  5. well if your going to take it in a car, then just put the air conditioner, my hamster travel with me too ^_^ and i put them in the car and put the air conditioner on, and they do just fine, just make sure ur hamster has water at all time, and never ever leave your hamster in the car by it'self without air conditioner, and shade.

  6. Why is it going to be so hot? You could probably just put a fan on it or put ice by the cage if its really a problem.... where will it be staying? sounds like in a car in the sun.  i dont think it can be so hot. Also try putting ice in his water bottle.

  7. buy one of those little battery fans and fan it?

  8. I did it with my guinea pig when she was pregnant!?!

but I'm not sure about the temperatures, we used to (in the summer) put those hard ice packs in her cage.

    good luck!!!!
