Question:

Hamster with lump on bottom

I am looking after my sisters hamsters and guinea pigs whilst they are away on holz, and i have noticed one of the hamsters has a lump coming out of its rear end under the tail, it is about the size of a ping pong ball. The hamster does not seem in any pain and is moving round the cage and through the tunnels, eating/drinking ok.

I have mentioned it to her but she says she didnt see it (which i find hard to believe) Does anyone know what it might be? Would i be entitled to see the vet free as i am on income based job seekers?

  1. sounds like a tumor to me. same thing happened to my rat. based on the size though im guessing its benign. tumors are not painful, but they can become annoying. take it to the vet. and remember every animal has the right to be seen by a vet, so dont feel weird about taking a hamster to the vet.

  2. He is perfectly normal that is his testicles and they swell up naturally because he is a male she may not have noticed them because he probably thinks you are a nice female hamster thats not a tumour i had hamsters before and his fine honestly

  3. its normal if  its a boy

there his balls my hamster has it too lol

  4. I would take the hamster to the vet, my hamster didnt have this, but if you are concerned in any way, theres no harm taking it to the vet, they will probably charge though, but you'll kick yourself if its not very well and dies. But maybe wait and see if its behaviour changes in the next few days.

  5. i think this is probably the hamsters testicles.

If it gets bigger or is very red then it could be something different.

If you are in the UK you will probably be able to go to a PDSA vets for free.

"To be eligible, pet owners need to live within the defined catchment area of a PDSA PetAid hospital or PetAid practice and must be receiving financial help with their housing costs through either Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit."

  6. Whats the point in taking it to a vet? Hamsters only last two or three years anyway

  7. If it is a male Hamster then it could be his testicles but being the size of a ping pong ball sounds rather large if it is that size then take it to the vet,

Use the vet your sister uses explain to them that shes away and that you cannot afford the bill then she can settle it when she comes back. Most vets are understanding, they rather an animal be treated than suffer.

  8. Omg my hamster had this too!

Errm although I did have my hamster years ago and don't remember much about it, I do remember that my hamster lived a long happy life and had no problems or illnesses in its whole life.

If your really concerned though take it to the vet just incase, should be fine though, good luck!

  9. Do you have a syrian hamster? Then what you may think is a lump sounds like a male hamster's testicles. They appear as soft lumps, or as one large lump with perhaps a small crease in the middle near the anal region.

If you are still worried about it, you can have it checked out by a vet but in all probability, it is completely normal.
