  1. i would say take him to the vet just to be safe.  i recently lost a cat due to cancer, and the first sign was bare skin.  i also just had to bring in a guinea pig yesterday for bare skin, to find out he had SCABIES.  gross.  but it could easily be mites also, which is terminal if left alone.  please take him/her to the vet!

  2. well as for the patch of bare skin i would say it might be an allergy. as for the nails just snip the tips off. at some pet stores you can buy a hamster nail cutter and it has a saftey thing on it so you cant go to short.

  3. the patch is probably from his skin being too dry or having an allergic reaction...either way its aggrivating him/her so their gonna scratch it and hair may come off

  4. Hamsters are pretty hardy pets, but are so small that injuries and illness can quickly become serious. If you notice any signs of illness in your hamster, you need to see a veterinarian as quickly as possible.

Mange - If you notice hair loss in your hamsters, then it could have mange. Demodectic mange does affect some hamsters to a degree and is usually not a serious problem except for the fact that it's often associated with some underlying disease that's set it off eg kidney problems, cancer

Hair loss is not all that unusual and can be seasonal or happen in older hamsters. If there is flakiness or redness of the skin or any lesions on the skin, or the hamster appears to be itchy and scratching more than usual, a vet should be seen

oh, and as for the nails, just cut the tip off. they sell nail clippers for hamsters at pet stores so that you dont clip it too short. or you can go to the vet to get them cliped if you dont want to do it yourself.

    Hope this helped =]

  5. The patch of skin may mean that he has malnutrition or something worng. You defianntley need to take him to the vet to see what the problem is.

  6. Easy, a patch of bare skin is a sure sign of illness. Take him to a vet immediately before he gets worse. and for the nails you can either use a hamster nail cutter which is quite uncommon, or a pair of sharp scissors which is ideal. You must make sure you don't cut the quick!

  7. you cant really cut gerbil nails. but take him to a vet and have her clip them. my gerbils used to always have the fur problem. its really nothing. but b/c of his long nails, he may be scratching the area with no fur and scratching too hard, so thats probably why he has no fur. go to an exotic vet and ask.

  8. could be worms have him checked by a vet
