I gave my syrian hamster a box filled with toilet paper strips for her to sleep in but for some reason she decided to take all the toilet paper out and sleep in a corner, I tried putting the box in that corner but no luck she just pushes the box out of the way and continues sleeping >.> any idea why? is there anything I can do to promote in-box sleeping habits?

  1. they want to make their own house and take control dont worry about it she will burro and make a nest and if there is a mail they will have lots and lots and lots of little one's so in or out of a box let her be as long as she is happy that is fine.

  2. as long as she sleeps, that should be fine but if her to be sleeping in a box is a more than anything else in this universe to you, try feeding her inside the box.

  3. Maybe she don't wanna sleep in the box. Maybe she wanna play in tha box!!!!!!!

  4. :) she must think that the box is uncomfortable to sleep in.. let her be as comfy as she wants.. don't be offended if she doesent sleep in it.. she doesent know...

  5. Hamsters naturally like to burrow, there may not be enough room in the box with the toilet tissue for your hamster to do this.

  6. i think it doesnt matter if she sleeps in the box or not, its all in her preference =)

  7. my hamster did the same

its totaly normal trust me i asked my vet because i was worried she was having babys but he said its normal

its fun watching them do it lol

  8. She probaly thinks of that box as a litter box, so she doesnt want to sleep by it. You should let it do what it wants because you can force it to do anything. But maybe you could try luring it in there.

  9. If this is a new hamster, you may wanna just leave her alone for a little while.  When I first brought my previous hamster home, she would never sleep in the bedroom but always slept in the potty room.  It turned out she had wet tail, and when she got better (thank goodness), she started to sleep in the bedroom.  I should've left her alone instead of trying to move her into the room.  When they're sick, they should be stressfree.

Also, the week before she passed away, she slept in the potty room again.  =(

Alternatively, your hammie might just be a rebellious little bugger who does whatever she wants - ie sleeps wherever she wants.  She doesn't HAVE to sleep in the room.  Just let her sleep where she wants.

I also have a cousin who's hamster uses the bedroom to pee teehee.

  10. IDK all hamsters are like that heck all 10 of my hamsters were like that so... yeah it's normal i guess it's more comfortable

for them. I had a different bred than yours, i had teddy bear hamsters they were really stubborn so i can't really give you an answer for the last one

  11. i have tried many things like the stuff you did. my little guy still likes to sleep in the corner behind his wheel. that is probably where he feels safest. ive tried moving the wheel and he just went right to where ever it was and slept there. just let him pick the spot. maybe he likes to see whats going on around him. let the sleeping dog (or hamster) lye.

  12. Hampsters like nest borrow type things. If it feels the box is too big it may stay away. Try sticking the house in the corner where it sleeps and placing a nice treat or food in it. You just want to have it get used to it.

  13. Hamsters just like to burrow. You can force her into it, you just have to let her "do her thing."  she might decied to go in it soon.

  14. hoo care where she sleeps?????????????

  15. let her sleep where she wants. you cant force her to like it.

~ maybe at the pet store (or where ever you got her) they didnt have boxes and she's just not use to it.
