Ive read in multiple places that hamsters are allowed to eat grapes and strawberries but on other sites Ive read that they are not allowed to eat grapes and strawberries because the sugars and that the fruit may get stuck in their pouches. Can I get some help here?

  1. Visit the following link for a list of foods you can and not give a hamster.

You can give them strawberries and seedless grapes but remember any fruit should be given in small quantities and not more than 2 times a week since too much can cause diarrhea.

The sugar in fruits is natural sugar and should not cause any problems to hamsters in small quantities. Processed sugar is not good for hamsters, so stay away from feeding any food with processed sugar in them like biscuits.

Food of sticky consistency can get stuck in the cheek pouches of hamsters, that is why giving them chocolates and peanut butter etc which have a sticky consistency is strictly prohibited.

  2. my hamsters loves grapes and they never had a problem..ive tried to feed them strawberries but they weren't interested in them..but i did some research and it said most hamsters love them so yours might like them..but ur not suppose to over do it on the fruits cause hamsters easily get diabetes..hope ive helped

  3. i say go for it if they like it give it to them as a treat every once and awhile. i give my hammie fruit as a treat once every two weeks he loves it, and my other hammie vegies since she seems not to like fruit as much as her hubby =)

  4. Hamsters can eat grapes and strawberries, but the acid in the fruit isnt all that good for them. I feed my hamster strawberries and he is totally fine and ive had him for about more than a year now. If you are to feed your hamster grapes or strawberries, dont give let them eat too much. If you give a hamster soft fruit, watch him/her eat it, then when the hamster is done, take it out so it cant put it in its pouch. Hamsters usually tend to like vegies more...

  5. i had the exact same problem!!! so what i did was give it a grape and she didnt like it......i gave her a strawberry and she loved it!!! so i keep giving her some and she hasnt gotten sick!! (its been 3yrs!!!!) so go for it but just make sure your hamster is actually interested in it!

  6. I never feed my hammies any fruits because the acid isn't good for them. I'd just avoid it in general.

  7. i fed my hamster grapes once and i didt notice anything wrong

  8. If they'll eat it give it to them. It's pretty funny to watch them stick grapes in their pouches.
