The One-Day and Test captain of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 has been ruled out of Friday’s Commonwealth Bank series match against Sri Lanka due a strained right hamstring, Cricket Australia revealed on Monday, February 13, 2012.
The Australian cricket team physio, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120, further clarifying it as a grade one strain.
"(He) sustained a low grade right hamstring strain," said Kountouris in a statement on Monday.
Clarke, who took over as Australian captain in April last year, sustained the hamstring injury while fielding during their four-wicket loss to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday. Further examination through a scan has confirmed that the injury is not too
serious and the Australian skipper is likely to be back for Sunday’s CB series match against India. The team physio is cautious saying that he will assess the batting all-rounder latter this week before deciding on his availability for the match.
"I will assess him later this week and decide on his availability for the game in Brisbane on Sunday," said Kountouris when asked about Clarke’s expected layoff.
The Australian skipper, however, was hopeful he would be back before the next game.
"I have a grade one hamstring strain so will be out of Friday's game," the Australian skipper posted on his Twitter account.
The incumbent has led the Kangaroos successfully over the past ten months. Since April 2011, Clarke has captained the side in 11 Tests, winning seven and losing only 2, while 2 have ended in draws. Clarke’s record as ODI captain is equally impressive, as
he has led the side in 14 ODIs in the past 10 months, winning ten and losing only four.
Cricket Australia had a tough decision to make on the stand-in captain for Friday’s game, and after much deliberation they appointed the former skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377.
Australia currently tops the Commonwealth Bank series table with nine points with India trailing them by one point. Sri Lanka, however, are yet to register a win in the series.
The match will be crucial as it will decide who will reach the best of three final.
