Okay, I have been at football practice for like a week and a half now, and before we even started doing the running on the first day (right after stretches) i noticed a very bad pain in both of my upper hamstrings. I am not sure if like right under your butt is still your hamstring, but anyways it has been hurting badly for like 3 days now. i do hamstring stretches and the i can feel the area that it is targeting and that is not the area that hurts, but if i like put my foot on the leg of one of my sofas, it hurts if i try to move my chest to my foot. any ideas? and another question. i was wondering if i could take any pain medications or anything to help me not fatigue during practices cuz there from like 7 am to 7pm (not all practicing). Thanks

  1. Yes, the part of your body that hurts is your hamstring.

Starting a new sport can lead to some aches and pains in parts of your body you haven't used for a while, and it's not unusual to get sore hamstrings from running.

Keep stretching the sore bit, as often as possible, but very gently.  The aim is not to feel pain, but to stretch out the stiffness.  If it gets sore, put ice on it to reduce any swelling in the muscle, but stretch it out again afterwards.

And please *don't* take painkillers during practices.  They won't help with the fatigue, and they could mask an injury.  The fatigue will pass once you get used to the routine.  It'll take about a month.

    Good luck!

  2. All that stretching! My God man...you're pulling your legs off! No wonder it hurts!

  3. i would go see a orthapedic doctor or maybe even a normal everyday doctor....

    so yea.

    PEACE! =D

  4. Sometimes if you havent worked your muscles in a long time stretching is painful other then that idk.

  5. well goodness... i would start with some advil.  it cant be that urgent if you can take the time to put it on yahoo answers...  you just need to stretch more, before and after.  also, you just got back into your regiment so that could be why.

as for increased endurance, that is just time.  every time you practice go a little harder a little longer pretty soon you wont feel that fatigue as badly.

also, do a modified chair pose, take your left ankle and rest it on your right knee, like youre sitting in a chair with your leg chillin, then squat back and lean forward.  this will stretch out your glute which could be partially what you are feeling.

also, it sounds goofy and looks awkward but it helps, look up pigeon pose under yoga moves.  this will stretch your glute and your hip flexor.  http://yoga.about.com/od/yogaposes/a/pig...

  6. Try a heating pad or Ice that may help.
