Hand breeding koi fish?

Is it safe if I extract by hand, eggs from a female and put it a bowl and then squeeze the seaman from the male?

  1. Well, I think you should seek the help from a local vet. Being a vet in training I have not heard that that is possible. The fish may die in the middle of this process. I recommend getting a second opinion from a vet, it doesn't sound like a valid idea.

Artificial hand breeding or properly called "hand stripping" is possible, and is usually done by professionals using large kois (18 inches or more in length).  The process is safe and does not harm the fish if done right.  However, if you have never experienced doing this procedure, or you have small sized breeders, I suggest you breed them the natural way.

  3. No, that probably will not work very well. Best to give the lovers their own space and let them to it on their own. Best to have two males and one female in a clean tank.
