Question:

Hand cramping when golfing?

by  |  earlier

I golf right handed. Often when I'm playing (almost every shot) my right hand cramps and stings. I have no visible symptoms, however. I rarely feel it off the course, but sometimes I do. Anyone have any suggestions?

  1. I developed trigger finger and had to get operated. Dont grip the club to tight.

  2. go see a chiropractor....could be something caused from somewhere else....My lower back locked up on the course and couldn't move, and hurt so bad...My friend grabbed my neck and stretched it out and pain went away..You might be out of alignment...

  3. You shopuld probably lighten your grip, especially on your right hand.  You could also investigate some larger grips that fit your hand better.

  4. your right hand is holding club in a death grip . loosen grip put more of grip into fingers not palm . better shots lower scores . no problem very very common mistake

  5. All wrong answers so far....

Ok so the answer is pretty simple to this problem.  It is the same answer to most of life's other problems....

Drink some beer and you will loosen up on the course.  Your hand wont hurt because you won't be so tense before you hit the ball, and you really won't care if the club gets thrown or not because you have been drinking beer.  Works everytime Im telling you.  Before you dismiss the idea, just try it once.  I guarantee your hand will not cramp after the 2nd beer.

  6. Sounds like a pretty serious problem.  Cramping is often related to dehydration so make sure you are drinking enough water while playing.  But the tingling etc sounds like maybe a pinched nerve.  Something is damaged in there and gripping the club sets it off.  Go to the doc and get is checked out.

  7. it could be cause you don't  drink enough water and your muscles are dry so they contract

  8. Try a couple shots with not as strong of a grip. (rotate right). If I have a real strong left hand, which prevents a strong right, I sometimes cramp my left, so I hope same is true in reverse.

  9. get a hand massager!!!!!!!! and spray it with windex and rub silly putty on it!!!!!!~~~

  10. Dont grip the d**n thing too tight.  This will not only help your cramps, but your game as well.

  11. The question is really where does it cramp or sting? In the palm, fingertips, knuckles, top-side, underneath, etc. How long has it been going on? Is it sharp or dull?

There's a chance it could be simple tendonitis and you don't feel it off the course because your hands and fingers are in a different position than what causes the pain. If this is the case, not much good news other than a couple of months off typically will heal the strained area.

I had a similar injury caused by moving a bunch of flagstone with my fingertips (building a patio) that affected my 1st and 2nd knuckles. While I wasn't willing to quit golf for 3 months, I did reduce the activities that aggrevated things and have since healed.

Whether you should see a doctor could depend upon factors such as the level of discomfort, how long it's been happening, etc.

Best of luck and hope it's just a minor setback for you.

  12. Probably using the ball washer too much.. last a long way to jump up you know.

  13. Do not grip so hard. Sounds like you are using a death grip.

The RH should be very loose

  14. Too much tension try relaxing and don't try to hit the sh-t out of the ball .  good tip is to take your mind of what you are doing,so gentle bite the tip of your tongue until it slightly hurts ,that fools the brain so you can strike the ball with out the brain knowing . Good golfing P.S. if it doesn't work go and see your doc,

  15. I'm no doctor, but it sounds like a case of gripping the club too hard. You don't want to grip the club so hard that your knuckles turn white. I'd recommend lightening the grip a little and see how that goes.
