  1. in shannon airport they are not as fussy about hand luggage as long as the bag is in reason  eg a standard back pack you can put what you want into your hand luggage as long as its under 100 mls and in a clear plastic bag and no sharp items .keep your liquids outside this bag.you can buy the bags for liquids  in the airport before check in and by security up stairs .its 2 euro for 2 bags .they are like  clear standard sandwich bags so if you have clear ones at home use them instead.if your bag is overweight you will have to pay excess and there is a baggage charge .you can ask the girls at the check in to weigh your bag before you check in so if it is overweight you can put what you dont need into the car .a tip for you is go to us immigration in the departure lounge in shannon in plenty of time it gets very busy .but it saves you doing it when you get to the usa.
