Hand of the day VII?

very interesting hand this time, at least imo

once again, 8-handed, $1-2 cash game, this time the effective stacks are only $350(i know, big departure, but it plays a factor in the hand)...the player in second position brings it in for $6, and you decide to smooth call from the small blind with Q-Q, and the big blind calls as well...the flop comes down Q-7-3 with two spades giving you top set...it gets checked around and the turn is the 10s, making a flush possible out there...you bet $12, and the big blind, who has a reputation for being somewhat tight, raises now to $54...you deliberate for a while, and decide to take one more card off and call...the river is the 4d, you check, and your opponent bets out $90...can any of you guys figure out a way in which we can possibly call this hand? i don't see it, but i'm just interested in seeing what you guys think

  1. I'd put his range of hands on flush, flush, flush, and a very small chance at a set ... no, make that a flush.

Obviously, we played the hand with a few mistakes, no preflop raise to protect our QQ, no postflop raise to chase away the draw, and then betting the turn AFTER the draw hits.

But there's no reason to believe our opponent made all the same mistakes.  No preflop raise to protect and define his 10 10?  and if not 10 10, then what?  77 or 33 and he checks with a flush draw on the board?  And then raises AFTER the flush draw hits?

There are only three possibilities that make any sense.  A strong flush, probably A-high, a stone cold bluff, or 2 of the 3 players in the hand completely misplayed it in exactly the same way.

    I'd fold.

  2. Plz 3-bet pf. None of this **** would have happened!

Anyways, our image, pot sizes on various streets, and oppenents images would be much appreciated!

By tight, do you mean tight passive?

There are a ton of combo draws that form when the turn hits, but a tight oppenent is not raising with them imo (except with AsQx).

That leaves sets, 2pairs, and flushes being more weighted to the flushes.

On the river he fires again. Now his range is weighted even more toward flushes.  I think its a fold.

  3. This one is tough.

The good news with this one, theres no way he puts us on a set of Queens.

The only way possible I see calling is if we put him on a set of 10's or smaller and not the flush. Since he bet on the 10 and not the flop. And we checked the flop so he thinks we're weak. And small bet the turn and checked the river too. It shows weakness if he's sitting on a set.

It's tough to call a third of my stack on a set with a flush and straight possibility showing. There are too many hands that beat us. Even if it's a ugly hand like a Js2s or 9s4s, it's still good. But you said hes tight and tight players don't play those hands. He probably would've raised the pot on flop with high flush draw to build the pot up. He wouldnt raise on the straight draw on turn, he'd just call.

I would put him on to a set of 10's or lower or a King to Jack high flush. He wouldnt be in with a lower flush preflop if he's tight. Or reraise the straight draw on turn and waste a free card.

Now this is a very tough call, but I think I make it based on the fact that we acted so weak throughout. He definatly doesn't put us on the set of Queens. I don't think he has a straight or Ace high flush. So the only 2 hands I don't want him to have is the King high or Queen Jack high flush. Everything else we beat. And calling doesn't completely cripple us money wise if we lose.

My first thought was fold, but the more I analyzed it, the more I like the tough call.

Also because we deliberated on the call on turn, he might put us on to the flush draw with a high spade in hand. And once there was no spade on river, he thought we missed the backdoor flush and he's good.

Do you have the results of our opponents hands on some of these so we know if it's a good play or not? After the Best Answer of course. Thank You.

  4. I'd probably put my opponent on As-Q or TT. AQ would make sense as a solid raising hand on the turn with top pair, high kicker, and a nut flush draw. I'd probably go ahead and make the call, because although I think the pocket Qs are around 50% to win, that's still positive pot odds with a pot of that size.

Of course it all depends on how confident you are about your read of your opponent as a tight player who wouldn't go in with a semi-bluff, but I generally would consider a player like this as trying to capitalize on his tight table image.

  5. As for calling the hand, nope, heck, you were hoping to fill up on the river and it didn't happen.  Kiss your baby chips good bye.

We should have re-raised pre-flop 20 or so dollars, to isolate our initial raiser and played them heads up.  As for the flop bringing a draw with two others in the hand, trapping ain't a good idea with more than one in the pot, especially with a draw on the flop.  While you might have been hoping for a check raise (due to the possibility of a c-bet from possition) it just didn't work.  If the draw hits, your set really looses its power. Especially due to your possition.  The feeler bet we did on the turn told us what we wanted to know, the flush hit our tight guy.  If bb is tight, I am just going to have to give him credit, heck a suited ace for 4 more dollars preflop for a pot of 18, a tight player is gonna call day in and day out . We played this hand bad from the get go, chalk it up and learn from our mistakes. I don't see him with a set, he appears to be aggressive with his play once he is playing so with 10/10 in the hole I imagine he would have re-raised himself to see what he might be up against pre-flop.

Your hands are rather interesting, you are always asking questions about situations I just don't see myself allowing, I am a tight/aggressive player(at least in most cash games where there is alot of loose play and live games tend to be loose at the 1/2 level).  I would like to know where you are seeing these hands...lol, they appear to be interesting games.
