another tournament situation

fairly early in a large multi-table tournament, you have 73k, and blinds are 400-800 with a 100 ante...in middle position, you decide to attack the blinds with J-3 of clubs making it 2500 to go, and the big blind, who was moved to our table only recently but has played a little on the tight side and relatively passively thus far, makes the call...the flop comes down J-8-6 rainbow, and our opponent leads out for 6k leaving 14k behind...there are cases to be made for the fold, call, or the all-in here, which do you choose?

  1. I think you fold.

He'll be getting over 2-1 to call your all in move. He left himself with 10x blinds and antes which isn't such a good position to be in  this early and you said he is usually passive and a bit tight.  If you call, he is going to push next card anyway so I do not believe calling is an option. The best you can hope he has is 10-9 or 9-,7  which makes it a fair bet if he has an open ended but that's not what you aree there for.

Most likely I would put him on k-j or better.

  2. I would just call.

He is relatively short stacked. So he is probably only going to put his money in there with a made hand. So a fold would be a good play because of our weak kicker.

A call is a nice play too because the pot was around 6000 plus his 6000 bet on top. It costs us 6000 to possibly win 18,000 with top pair. If another Jack rolls off he is less likely to have a Jack or if a 3 rolls off we are probably golden. Our decent size raise pre flop says overs more than high pockets. So he could've bet hoping we didn't hit and fold.

I don't like the all in because if he calls we are more than likely way behind. And he's invested too much to let it go now.

So I think calling would be the best play. We would still have 60k left regardless. And he's first to act after turn so we'll know if he more than likely has something or not. Plus if we've made this nice of stack by raising with Jack 3, then we're obviously running good. So let's see some cards.

  3. Might be ok to call with your weak J. You have this guy chip dominated. If you have some real balls an all in push would mught steal the pot. If he has a set your in trouble.
