Handball Arena at Olympic Park holds debut event as Great Britain beats Anogola – Handball News
Handball fans around the world were given a taste of the sport as the London Handball Cup went underway. It was more of a test run for the game, as handball would be one of the games to be contested at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
On November 23, 2011, the Handball Arena in the newly built Olympic Park was the venue where enthusiastic handball fans and excited teams made their way to witness a good play of handball.  
Team Great Britain, the home team was looking in great stride as they played their first match of the tournament and kicked off the event. Team Great Britain won their match against Team Angola. The British players won by two points
as they scored 22 points while the visiting Angolan team could score 20. It was a good competitive match as both team kept their momentum going in the right direction.
Jesper Holmris, the coach of the Great Britain handball team, was enthralled by the proceedings of the event and they way his team performed in the Group B match on the opening day and opening match of the tournament. The Handball
Arena is the venue where the tournament will be played and it was also the first time any event was held in this area.
The primary objective to hold the London Handball Cup was to give a test run of all the aspects and to check and counter check that all functions run smoothly. The management had to confirm that the scoreboards, equipment and other
facilities including the spectator’s stands and the electronic gadgets are in good order. Holmris was pleased with the performance of his team. Team Great Britain did face resistance from Team Angola but in the last six minutes of the match, the African side
was unable to utilize some goal chances, giving Great Britain the opportunity to go for the win.

did a great job on the court. British players, Holly Lam-Moores and Kathryn Fudge gave their side a dominant lead after they scored four goals each.
Jane Mayes, the goalkeeper of Team Great Britain was the player that Great Britain would certainly play with in the Olympic Games as she had an exceptional thirty-eight percent save ratio and she saved twelve clear goal chances,
giving her team a steady lead. Holmris said 'It was a great performance in a fantastic arena. Our defence was strong and solid and that is really positive but we have to score more goals and create more opportunities.”
