  1. the hand brake is your emergency brake, so what you are attempting to do is lock the back wheels so you can spin the car around , well if it isn't locking the wheels up it is time to replace the rear brake shoes if you are doing the job yourself make sure not to switch the shoes in most vehicles  there is a difference in the two shoes that go on the assembly and if you have them switched you will not have enough brake shoe surface hitting the brake drum to do what you are trying

  2. Only if your hand break is broken...

It is an EMERGENCY BREAK for a reason...

If it only stopped you from going backwards it wouldn't do any good in any of the millions of situations you can get in going forward...

I have never known anyone to have an emergency while in reverse.

  3. How do the kids do handbrake turns then ?

  4. Your handbrake is intended to hold the vehicle when parked,   not to stop the car.    It is not designed for what you are attempting.

  5. the handbrake is essentially a wire that pulls a braking mechanism in the rear wheel.  if it's engaged and allowing you to drive or roll forward, you need to have it tightened.  you can do it yourself, but don't over tighten.  take it to midas.

  6. If that's so... It's not working properly.

  7. take it to mech. let him fix it, something is wrong.

  8. The handbrake will need to work both in reverse and forward and you either have bad rear brakes, or rear brakes that need to be adjusted or the brake cable will need to be checked and or adjusted as well.

  9. Hand brake need to work in both forward and reverse motion. If it works on reverse motion, then nothing wrong with ur brake valve/cable, but may be with hand brake lever while engaging in forward motion. It may differs for each vehicle according to brake system installed. Check it out with your vehicle dealer repairer under warranty if you have.........

  10. The car, basically runs on front wheel,, & the hand break are Drum brakes which are on the rear wheel.. hence when the car is running forward & when we apply break it reacts urgently as the front break r disk break. & the car moving forward stops on urgent basis... when we apply hand break when the car is in motion,, the loade is not taken by the break as rear break r drum break, which cannot controll the car on the spot hence it take few seconds to get controlled ....
