Question:

Handicap parking/Delaware?

Does anyone know if there is a fine for parking in the handicap zones in Delaware? It doesn't say if there is a fine on some of the signs I seen.

I shop in Delaware on and off and I see more of these spaces being used by people without tags or plates than with them.

I frequently see people with handicaps unable to park because of these people. I was wondering if it would make a difference in reporting these people. Parking isn't a priorty for the police.

  1. According to laws in other states, it must be indicated on the sign that there is a penalty for improper use. The same goes for towing enforcement. It must be indicated on the signage.

  2. I live in Texas. In this state it is illegal to park in a handicapped space without the proper plates/tags. If you park in one of these spaces without the proper tags/plates be prepared for one the following scenarios...

    1) An expensive piece of paper. ie...parking ticket.

    2) A fine in addition to the ticket.

    3) Car towed.

    4) All of the above.

Some stores carry it further by towing away any vehicle "illegally" parked in the store's courtesy spaces. Like a single man parking in a stork (pregnant women only) parking space.

There's one store near where I live that has reserved the 1st 3 spaces of every aisle in their lot for parents with kids. If these spaces are located on a handicapped space aisle, they come after the handicapped spaces.

  3. Look at this site and maybe it will help you.
