Handicaps and Amateur Status?

I'm a senior in High School and if i apply for a handicap during my golf season does that interfere with my amatuer status? Or can anyone have a handicap at anytime?

Anyone can have a handicap at any time. It has nothing to do with amateur status. In fact, to compete in USGA events, you're required to have a handicap.

And you SHOULD get a handicap. It's a great way to track your game.

You can have a handicap at anytime.  Apply for one with the USGA so it can be recognized whereever you play.

Depending on where you live it is usually free for junior golfers to keep a handicap (atleast in MI with GAM it is).

Sign up at your local course for one if you plan on playing any USGA events.
