Question:

Handling Painful Braxton Hicks Contractions? Nothing's working...?

Anyone have any tips on how to handle or reduce the pain of B-H contractions? This is my second pregnancy so I have the "subsequent pregnancy" curse of the B-H contractions gone bad and turned painful. My first pregnancy had nothing but painless ones.

I actually went to the hospital today as they got so bad that I thought it may be preterm labor which thankfully it wasn't.

I have tried walking, resting, eating, drinking, stretching. The nurses suggested a warm bath.

Anyone else have any tried and true methods? I have been having painful B-H contractions for 9 hours straight now and would love some relief.

  1. To reduce pain during contractions or reduce or stop early contractions, increase the amount of protein you are eating and the amount of water you are drinking and rest for a bit.

Water is tremendously helpful at this time, drinking water, a swim at a pool, warm baths, prenatal massage, anything that is calming and soothing. Call up a girlfriend and have her help you get your mind off things for a bit with a good chat on the phone. You can also drink a cup of red raspberry leaf tea as this helps to tone the uterus and provide extra mineral support now.
