Handling a pregnant rat?

Is it safe to hold a pregnant rat? And if it is, what is the best way to do it? Right now my rat is only a few days pregnant. Well, i think she's pregnant, she should be. Anyway, i was just wondering if i can still let her out to run around and climb and hold her and stuff. She's a very hyper little girl and needs lots of exercise. Should i restrict her at all?

  1. You can hold her and let her run around as much as she want's to , just keep in mind to not rough house with her. The only time you should back off from messing with her as much is a few days or maybe even a week before the babies are due.

If you can take her to the vet and see what they say, she may be one that needs special care or something. But other than that just act as if there is nothing different about her.

  2. not if she is acoulple of days due then i wouldnt advise it

  3. Until she is having  the babies, you can hold her and let her exercise as she feels like.

  4. Yes, it's safe as long as you're gentle. Why "should" she be pregnant? I sure hope you didn't breed her on purpose.

  5. Yes, but don't do the last week if possible. I suggest just letting her have fun floor time. A ball may be safer so she can't climb up and fall. I suggest cradeling. Make sure you support her tummy. It may be best t oget a wheel when she is closer to delivery.
