  1. idk... it might chew through the gloves. really not kidding so I would suggest you just be really careful, wash your hands before and after you pet them and.... if it DOES bite you its just trying to get used to your scent. so I dont really know thats up to you.

  2. If you want to use them at first go right ahead. You don't have to though. This is what I did when I get my hamsters:

I put my hand in the cage with a treat on my hand. I do this so they get ready to be picked up. When they take the treat out of my hand I pick them up slowly. Then they are ready to be held.

    Hope I helped. :]-

  3. Here is what i did:

when my hamster was young she used to bite me, but only while i was picking her up, not while i was holding her. So i put the gloves on while i was picking her up from her cage and when she was in my hand id take off each glove( while she was crawling on my arm) that way she got used to my scent and didn't bite. i dont know if your hamster is the same way, with the fact that mine only bite while i was actually picking her up, not holding her. but thats how mine where. - hope i helped!

  4. Its allright but not necessary.

  5. Yes that is perfectly fine to use gloves when handling your new hammie. Since he has already got your scent you can feel free to use gloves just to see how he reacts when being handled. Some may bite so it is best to just test out what he will do it different situations. Only use your gloves for an amount of time because you want to be able to feel his/her soft fur and him/her moving on your hands.

Hope I helped!! Good luck with your new hammie. ^^

  6. you don't really need to because they are born in captivity and not in the wild so they grow up with human scent

  7. Yes, it's alright, I do that too with my hammy, she bit me once.

  8. Just because your hamster knows your scent, that doesnt mean that its ready to be handled or is used to you yet. you need to wait a week or so just to be sure. Or unless you want to get bitten or it may p**p or pee on you or your bed because its scared. Mine did it to me.

  9. its not neeeded and there's no point.

also, to KT you don't need to wait a week? i waited like a day and like got mine out for like 5 minuites then put it back and progressed so it got used to being handled.

  10. If your hamster already knows your scent, then why would you need the gloves?  It would be okay to use them, but when you handle your hamster, it will get used to the scent of the gloves that you are using.  And when you take them off, and pick your hamster up, it will be used to the scent of the gloves, and it may bite you.  I hope this helps.

  11. Yea. me and my friend used to use winter gloves that only we have used, because it has your scent and it keeps the hamster from breaking your skin!

  12. No.

It needs to get used to YOUR scent.

Handling with gloves is clumsy and useless because your overall goal is to lose the gloves.

Also, you should be leaving a new hamster alone for at least three days; you shouldn't be thinking about handling yet.

After three days, rub your hands in its sawdust so you smell like him/her, and then start to stroke it. DON'T pick it up, because it'll be unused to this and be scared, and prone to biting. You need to get it used to touch then, after a few days of stroking, you can try picking it up.

  13. Yes you can use gloves .. if you can catch him .. and he will probably try to bight but that's expected of him

the little hamster is likely to be very bewildered and scared still

by right you should just LEAVE  the hamster alone in it's cage of course with food etc for the first few days so he can become used to his surroundings and accustomed to the new sights and sounds.

and just cos he gets used to your scent doesn't mean he'll instantly come to you it'll take time .. about a week or two of daily 10-15min sessions just talking softly and holding out your hand to him (with/without gloves) but don't go after him constantly let him come to you

  14. No gloves. if it bites u it doesn't hurt.

  15. Gloves are not necessary.

Why do you wan to use them?

Hamsters really dont mind being handled by hands for the most part. They get pretty used to it. Just make sure you wash your hands before and after handling your hamster but no one uses gloves, lol. You're perfectly fine using your hands nothing is going to happen. Have fun with your new buddy! =)
