what is the size limit for hand luggage can i have the dementions as lenth with and thickness please thanks

That can vary, depending on the airline.  It must be able to fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartments.  Most U.S. domestic, non commuter airlines  allow a suitcase of 22"x14"x9" as carry on. Many allow a second smaller item as well such as a tote, cosmetic bag, briefcase, etc.   For some international flights the size restriction may be 18"x14"x9".   This is a recommended carry-on size and will vary from airline to airline so you need to check the website for the airline to be certain to get the correct information.  Here is one link that may be of some help.
