Question:

Hands Free Law on cell phones?

If someone is deaf, uses hearing aids, and can't use the headphones that are used for cell phones, because of interference from the headphones. What are the legal possibilities that a deaf person could do or use. I can use the speakerphone on the phone. But I can't use the bluetooth hook things that go over the ear, or use the inside the ear headphones. I also can't use the jawbone headset or anything like that. Could anyone help me with this? I am curious.

  1. With these laws starting to become more popular, hearing aid manufacturers are working on new things all the time.  However, as of right now the options are limited and pricey.  They are working on minitiarizing the bluetooth chip to fit inside of a hearing aid so that you can use your blue tooth cell phone by listening in hearing aid and talking into microphone clipped on your shirt or something.  As of right now there are some bluetooth hearing aid devices that can work in a couple of ways.  First there are some blue tooth things that plug into a behind the ear hearing aid and communicate with bluetooth devices.  There are others that work with a neck loop.  The neck loop communicates to hearing aid through its telecoil option.  And there are a couple other things too.  This is becoming a big issue and whenever you are looking into new hearing aids these types of things should be taken into consideration.

  2. I'm not sure about your laws as they are different per area.

As cars are currently available with built-in cellular phones, that is probably the best option if you can afford it.  I'm not sure what it would run to install something like that into your car, though, as that probably depends on the model of your car.  But it isn't inexpensive.

These phones allow the driver to push a button and speak a number or contact name to be dialed.

  3. why would a Deaf person (one who can't hear) use a cell phone?  the Deaf person would use another form of technology and doesn't use it whilst driving because it requires hands -which are on the steering wheel.

  4. They make bluetooth headsets that just clip on the visor. There are also systems that you can have installed on your vehicle itself to project the sound through the speakers and they put a microphone up by your maplights.
