‘Hands off Jose Reina’ - Roy Hodgson to Manchester United
Liverpool's manager, Roy Hodgson has finally started behaving like a big club manager, warning rivals Manchester United not to plan a move for the goalkeeper, Jose Reina.
Manchester United are currently looking for their long term successor of Edwin Van Der Sar, who is now 40 and could hang up his gloves any time. Despite being in good form, the 40 year old’s future remains in doubt and he may be asked to quit in order to
make way for a new goalkeeper. The Red Devils have a lot of high quality strikers on their radar, but would fancy having Reina owing to his undeniable talent.
"We have heard nothing from Manchester United and, more to the point, we don't want to hear anything from Manchester United. If (Sir Alex) Ferguson is looking around at the end of the season and he has got lots of money to replace (Edwin) van der Sar, he
might very well want Pepe Reina because he is the best around. But we do not want to sell him. I would like to think that we are going to become a successful club once again and Pepe is crucial to that", stated the Liverpool manager.
In other news, Dutch forward Dirk Kuyt is on the road to recovery from his ankle concern and has been given some good news regarding his come-back. The player is expected to step up his recovery and may well make his comeback in the match against Chelsea
next weekend. While on International duty, Kuyt suffered a devastating knock on his ankle and was expected to be out of action for next month owing to that.
"He shouldn't be as far advanced as he is with his ankle but he's looking good. I don't think he'll be fit for the weekend but maybe the weekend after", said the former Fulham boss.
Liverpool would now have to manage back to back wins in order to get back in the upper half of the table. The side is currently fighting relegation and has managed only their second win in 9 fixtures last weekend. The Reds now travel to the South to face
Bolton, who have established themselves into a tough side this season.
Roy Hodgson has already emphasized over more victories this season and it would take an emphatic performance from all the players to overcome the physicality of Bolton Wanderers. Bolton boss, Owen Coyle is a smart manager and would love to exploit the lacking
areas of the Merseyside club.
