  1. Video will record to the DVD. DVD based camcorders will provide you with the WORST video quality for video editing.

Better than DVD are the hard drive and certain flash memory camcorders (from Canon and Sony - NOT aiptek or flip, they are toys). Best available video quality comes from miniDV tape.

If you are stuck on using flash-memory, then look at the Canon FS100. If you are stuck on using Sony (they are the only ones that use memory stick pro duo) then you can check these:

But please do not get a DVD based camcorder. If you don't believe me, then read through:

and see if you want to go through this pain.

The size of the memory card and the amount of video it can store will depend on which level of quality you select on the camcorder. I suggest you base your decision and research on "best quality"... If you THINK you have selected a camcorder, go to the manufacturer's site - typically either at the camcorder's "product page" OR the support area, you can download the camcorder's manual. In the manual, there will be a table that has the memory card size and the various video quality settings and the amount of video time that the card will hold.

Note that video time will be reduced if you take any stills and they are stored on that same memory card.

Please do not buy a DVD camcorder.
