Hanging a 70lb bag?

OK I just moved and want to hang up my punching bag in my garage.

Are the studs/beams in a ceiling strong enough to support a 70lbs bag with an Eye hook screwed into it?

  1. Those are called joists and no, they will move and crack the drywall joints all over the place. Go into the attic and lay a 4x4 across 3 of them, nail it to  them, and hang the bag from that.

Drill a 1/2" hole through the 4x4 and use a bolt through it with a nut. Get the bolt with a eye hole in the hanging end and hook the bag to that.

  2. Maybe, but you can always reinforce the truss.  If you have a ceiling in the garage you will need to get into the attic.  Just attach a length of chain from the truss or rafter directly above the eyehook to the roof truss.  This should give you enough support for 70 lbs. Good luck.

  3. NOt unless your securly reinforce them.. a s***w in  a wood truss will not last long enough for you to enjoy the bag
