I am new at hanging my clothes, towels & bed linens on the clothes line in my yard.

Does anyone have any tips on how to hang certain items, or things to make it easier to take down?

In general just any advise, tips, suggestions based on experience would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

  1. use 3 pins per 2 items. hag things w sleeves upside down

  2. i use to love to hang my clothes on the line hang pants by the waist and i hang towels 2 by 2

  3. Hang by clothes pins upseid down..they will leave marks so hang the clothes where the marks don't matter....something that will be tucked in....or just iron the imprints...

  4. Use wooden clothes pins to hang things like quilts, towels, sheets, pillow cases, blankets.  There really isn't another way to hang them.

I prefer to hang my clothes on hangers.  That way I bring them in and straight to the closets they go.

Now I do run them in the dryer for a few minutes to get lint, pet hair off and to soften them up.  My husband and son don't like stiff t-shirts!  Then I remove them from the dryer, hang on hangers and take them out to the line.

For shorts and pants, I have a supply of the type of hangers the stores use for them.  Or if I don't have enough of those hangers, I'll hang them on regular hangers.

I don't tinker around hanging undies and socks on the line.  To me, it's more hassle than it's worth!

  5. Hanging clothes on a straight line.  Sheets...fold in two, hang so that the hems are pegged to the line. Cardigans... hang so that the waist of the cardigan is pegged to the line. Same for shirts and any other garments that is worn on the thorax. Trousers, hang by the legs. Anything like socks hang from the toe, Hankies , Knickers, and other odds just stick a peg in them

  6. I used to use wooden clothespins, these links should help too.

    HOPE THAT HELPS

  7. Hang your sheets over the line and pull the corners until they're even-- put three or four clothespins to hold, make sure you at least have one on either end.   When you go to take them down they will have a nice crease right down the middle,  which makes it easy to pull off the line and fold right into your basket.

Towels should be hung from one end- put a clothespin at each end and if they are really heavy, one in the middle.  Same with pillowcases.

Nice blouses should be hung on a hanger and pinned to the line.  T-shirts can be hung upside down or pinned at the shoulders,  try both and see which one you like best.  Button down shirts should be hung from the side seams,  upside down.

Most things are hung up the same way that you wear them,  I put two pins in every item-  but that's just me.  Things seem to dry faster that way.

  8. Hang trousers by the cuffs. The weight of the waist will help to pull the wrinkles out. Button style shirts hang from the tails, same thing as the trousers. Tee shirts can be hung from the bottom or the shoulders. But hanging them from the shoulders sometimes leaves clothes pin marks showing.

  9. It really helps if you have a long forked branch to push the clothes line up into the air with.

It will sag as you hang the clothes on it and trying to pull it tight just stretches it.

A stick with a notch, fork or even a nail lets you push the center of the line up into the air and prop it up there.
