Hanging vines?

I want to get about 5 hanging pots or 2 long ones and plant some vines the will hang down kinda like curtains and grow at least 5 feet long. I need ones that can tolerate high heat (live in San Diego) and the way I'm facing gets the hottest part of the day, and I've lost plants due to that. I also need ones that won't grow upwards onto my neighbor aboves patio, only grows down. Also ones that aren't poisonous (not sure if vines are or not) as we live in a heavy pet trafficing area, where ppl are walking their dogs all the time. Easy to control vines. Any suggestions on types I could possibly use?

Thanks.

  1. mandevilleas are great. they are climbers, but will gow down if their is nothing for it to climb. lots of great flowers. may stop flowering in the coldest part of the winter, but if temps are above 32 it will survive. they gow very fast, but you can cut it to keep it from growing too long down.

also vinca vines varigrated are nice. cold tollerant to 10 without loosing leaves and in climates where temps stay above 10 it will flower from march to june or even july. easy to control just keep it pruned

  2. Millions of bells would work well, also sometimes you find bouganvilla in hanging baskets which would work great

  3. Some nasturtiums grow pretty long, aren't toxic, you can eat the flowers and they are pretty hardy.
